Avenger

Avenger makes the shotgun much stronger. Each pellet now sprays three shrapnel pieces after hitting a Bloon (1 damage, 6 pierce each), knockback on regular Bloons doubles, and the shotgun can now knock back MOAB-class Bloons too. The pistol rises from 6 to 18 damage with +18 against Ceramics. While Nomad's life-loss effect is active, every Bloon up to Rainbow only takes 1 life if it leaks.

When to buy it

Avenger is a strong mid to late-game area tower when it gets buffs. The shrapnel scales very well with pierce and damage boosts such as Berserker Brew and Primary Training, and the knockback helps it hold single targets up to ZOMGs. Two buffed Avengers can lock down a section of the map in CHIMPS. Glue Storm helps it deal with DDTs.

Placement matters because of Wanderer: put it at the edge of a Village's range so it gets the buff without losing a shotgun stack. Repositioning tools, such as Dan D'Monke's or a Support Chinook's, make this easier.

0-2-4 is preferred for built-in Camo detection and crits. 2-0-4 is better when you have outside camo detection and need more single-target damage and knockback.

Avenger is also used in Boss Rush against Lych to push back its zombie blimps.

Is it worth it?

Yes, as a buffed area damage tower. The leak protection is a last-resort safety net, not a reason to buy it.
