Road Spikes
Road Spikes in BTD6: five piles that each pop 20 Bloons (21 with Just One More), including Lead and Camo, for 50 Monkey Money. Best uses and limits.
A huge stack of Road Spikes ready to lay down wherever you need them most!
Guide
Road Spikes are the cheapest Power in BTD6. Each purchase gives five piles of spikes, and each pile pops up to 20 Bloons that touch it, including Lead and Camo Bloons. A pack costs 50 Monkey Money, so one pile costs just 10.
What Road Spikes do
- Placed directly on the track.
- Each pile has 20 pierce, or 21 with the Just One More knowledge. Each hit pops one layer.
- They pop any Bloon type, including Lead and Camo.
- A pile stays on the track, even between rounds, until its pierce is used up.
- Can be placed during the break between rounds.
- Each purchase gives five piles.
Because a pile only has 20 pierce and each hit removes one layer, Road Spikes are for small leaks, not for big waves. A single Ceramic has many layers and can eat a large part of a pile on its own, and they do nothing useful against MOAB-class Bloons.
Free Road Spikes from Pre-Game Prep
The Pre-Game Prep knowledge places a permanent pile of Road Spikes at the end of the track at the start of every game, one pile per exit on multi-exit maps. They do not use up your inventory, so it is a free last line of defence in every mode that allows Monkey Knowledge.
How to get Road Spikes
Buy them for 50 Monkey Money per five piles, or collect them from:
- Achievements: Next Level (win your first game on an Intermediate map, 3 piles plus 50 Monkey Money) and Super BAD (destroy 1,000 BADs, 10 piles plus 500 Monkey Money).
- The Brickell Bootcamp Quest (10 piles).
- Daily and event rewards.
Best times to use them
- Round 24 Camo Green and round 33 Camo Reds and Yellows. Without Camo detection these small Camos slip through. A pile or two near the exit stops them for 10 Monkey Money each.
- Round 28 Leads. Six Leads can leak through a dart-only defence early on. Road Spikes pop Lead, so a pile covers them until you get proper Lead popping.
- The last few leakers of any round. Put a pile at the very end of the track to catch the one Pink or Rainbow that slips past.
- Before you leave for a moment. A few piles near the exit act as insurance during a risky early round.
Place piles where the leaks happen: usually the end of the track, or right after your main defence.
Best combos
- Early single-target defences. Dart Monkeys and Boomerang Monkeys without Lead or Camo coverage benefit most, because the spikes fill exactly those gaps.
- Spike Factory. If you like spikes, a Spike Factory at the end of the track does the same job permanently, and Road Spikes cover the time before you can afford one.
- Camo Trap. For bigger Camo waves, the Camo Trap removes Camo so your towers can see them, while Road Spikes catch the few that still get through.
- Glue Trap. Slowed Bloons are easier for your towers to finish, so fewer of them reach the spikes.
Where you can't use them
- Disabled in CHIMPS, Races and ranked Boss Events.
- Disabled in challenges and Quests that turn Powers off, and in the editors' test mode.
- In Contested Territory your inventory is locked, but the Road Spikes Relic gives 10 piles per game.
- In Odyssey and Rogue Legends only equipped Powers can be used.
The Pre-Game Prep spikes are a Monkey Knowledge effect, so they only appear in modes where Monkey Knowledge is active.
Is it worth the Monkey Money?
As cheap insurance, yes. At 10 Monkey Money per pile they are the cheapest way to stop a small leak, and they solve Lead and Camo problems that would otherwise cost you a medal early in a game.
They are weak on their own and useless against blimps, so do not expect them to save a late round. Buy one pack if you often lose lives to early Camo or Lead rounds, and take Pre-Game Prep in the Powers knowledge tree for a free pile in every game.
