In-game description

Guide

Cheaper Lakes lowers the price of the Portable Lake power from 50 to 40 Monkey Money per purchase. It is a top-row Powers knowledge with no prerequisite and costs a single Knowledge Point and no Monkey Money.

The discount applies in the Powers shop, not in a game. If you have your Monkey Knowledge switched off when you visit the shop, the lake costs the full 50 again.

How it changes the game

A Portable Lake is a small patch of water you can place on land, which lets you build water towers such as the Monkey Buccaneer, Monkey Sub and Admiral Brickell on maps with no water. It is the main way to play a water strategy on a dry map.

Cheaper Lakes saves 10 Monkey Money per lake, 20% of the price. For most players that is a small saving, because lakes are not something you buy every day. The math is simple: after five lakes you have saved enough for one more.

Who should care:

  • Players who main Admiral Brickell or water towers and want them on every map.
  • Players who use Portable Lakes in Boss Events (outside ranked mode) or long freeplay games to place extra subs and boats.

The knowledge changes nothing in a game itself: the lake works exactly the same. It only lowers what you pay for it.

Is it worth it?

Priority: situational. If you buy Portable Lakes regularly, it pays for itself over time. Otherwise, the main reason to take it is the branch behind it: Budget Pontoons, which you need together with Longer Boosts for Powerful Monkey Storm. From there the tree continues to Fit Farmers, Supa-Thrive, Budget Cash Drops and Grand Prix Spree.

Among the top-row Powers knowledge, Just One More is the better first pick because it leads to Pre-Game Prep. Cheaper Lakes is a good second pick, ahead of Bigger Camo Trap.

Where it works

The discount works in the Powers shop as long as your Monkey Knowledge is switched on when you buy. Using a lake in a game requires a mode where Powers are allowed, so not CHIMPS, Races or ranked Boss Events. Portable Lake also has no relic in Contested Territory, so it cannot be used there.
