Super Monkey Storm

Super Monkey Storm in BTD6: 4,000 damage to every Bloon on screen for 100 Monkey Money, when to use it, best combos and where it is banned.

It's a bird. It's a plane. It's a squadron of flying super-powered laser-beamin' monkeys who destroy every single Bloon on screen and do big damage to MOAB-Class Bloons.

In-game description

Guide

Super Monkey Storm is the classic panic button of BTD6. Drag it onto the map during a round and a squadron of Super Monkeys flies across the screen, dealing 4,000 damage to every Bloon that is currently on screen. It costs 100 Monkey Money and is used up instantly.

What Super Monkey Storm does

  • Deals 4,000 damage to every Bloon on screen at the moment you use it, or 5,000 with the Powerful Monkey Storm knowledge.
  • Against regular Bloons the damage carries through every layer, so anything from a Red to a Ceramic simply disappears, children included.
  • Against MOAB-class Bloons the damage stops at the outer layer. It does not soak through, so the Bloons that fall out of a popped blimp are untouched.
  • It only hits what is on screen at that moment. Bloons that spawn a second later are not affected.
  • You cannot use it in the break between rounds. It has to be dropped while a round is running.

What that means in practice: 4,000 damage is more than a MOAB (200 health), BFB (700) or DDT (400) can take, and exactly enough to pop the outer shell of a regular ZOMG (4,000). A BAD has 20,000 health, so the Storm only takes a slice of it. Fortified blimps have double health, and in freeplay blimp health keeps climbing, so the fixed damage matters less the further you go.

How to get Super Monkey Storms

You can buy them in the Powers menu for 100 Monkey Money each, but you will also collect plenty for free:

  • Achievements such as Poppable (win 25 games on Impoppable, 3 Storms plus 500 Monkey Money), Me Did A Job on DDT (3 Storms), When the going gets tough… (2 Storms) and Ready Player One? (1 Storm).
  • Quests, including the hero tutorials for Quincy and Etienne.
  • Daily rewards, Daily Challenges and event rewards, which hand out random Powers regularly.

Free copies are the best way to stock up. Save them for hard medals instead of spending Monkey Money on them.

Best times to use it

  • Round 63 and other Ceramic rushes. Round 63 sends 122 Ceramics and 75 Leads. A Storm while the Ceramics are bunched on screen wipes them, which is exactly where a mid-game defence tends to break. Round 76 (60 Regrow Ceramics) and round 78 (150 Rainbows, 147 Ceramics and a BFB) work the same way.
  • Right after a blimp pops. Wait until a ZOMG or BFB breaks into its children, then fire the Storm. It cleans out the smaller blimps and the Ceramics that spill out, which is far more value than hitting the shell itself.
  • Round 100 on Impoppable. Keep one for the moment the BAD dies. The DDTs and ZOMGs that drop out are where most last-second leaks come from.
  • Camo, Lead or DDT problems. The Storm hits every Bloon type, including Camo and Lead, so it covers a missing detection or popping type for one wave.
  • Emergency only. If you are leaking at the very end of the track, a Storm saves lives instantly. It is a poor tool for rounds your defence already handles.

Best combos

  • Defences that struggle with spill. Single-target blimp killers such as Sniper Monkeys on the Maim MOAB path or a Ray of Doom delete the shell but leave Ceramics behind. A Storm covers that weakness.
  • MOAB Mine. The mine strips blimp shells, the Storm then clears everything that falls out. Together they handle a round 95 or 98 crisis for 150 Monkey Money.
  • Glue Trap or Time Stop. Slowed Bloons bunch up on screen, so more of the round is hit by one Storm.
  • Slowing towers. Ice Monkeys and Glue Gunners keep a wave packed together on screen, so one Storm catches more of it.

Where you can't use it

Super Monkey Storm follows the normal Power rules:

  • Not allowed in CHIMPS, Races or ranked Boss Events.
  • Not allowed in challenges or Quests whose rules disable Powers, or in the test mode of the Challenge and Map Editors.
  • In Contested Territory you cannot use Storms from your inventory. Instead, the SMS Relic gives you two Storms per game.
  • In Odyssey and Rogue Legends you can only use the Powers you equip before starting.

Against Boss Bloons in normal Boss Events, the Storm is allowed but does little to the Boss itself. Its job there is to clear the regular Bloons around it.

Is it worth the Monkey Money?

Yes, as an insurance policy. At 100 Monkey Money it is one of the pricier normal Powers, but nothing else removes an entire screen of Bloons in one tap. Buy a small stock if you are pushing a hard Impoppable or Expert map medal and keep the free ones from achievements for the same purpose.

It is not worth spending on normal games your defence can already win. If you use Storms often, the Super Monkey Beacon Pro Power unlocks after you buy and use enough of them, and it gives you a reusable, upgradeable Storm instead. Powerful Monkey Storm is a cheap knowledge point that adds 25% damage to every Storm, so take it if you use Powers at all.

Frequently asked questions

How much damage does Super Monkey Storm do in BTD6?

It deals 4,000 damage to every Bloon on screen, or 5,000 with the Powerful Monkey Storm knowledge. Against blimps it only damages the outer layer.

Does Super Monkey Storm kill a BAD?

No. A BAD has 20,000 health, so one Storm only takes part of it. Use the Storm after the BAD pops to clear its DDTs and ZOMGs instead.

Can you use Super Monkey Storm in CHIMPS?

No. All Powers are disabled in CHIMPS, Races and ranked Boss Events.

Does Super Monkey Storm hit Camo and Lead Bloons?

Yes. It hits every Bloon on screen, including Camo, Lead, Purple and DDTs.

Can you use Super Monkey Storm between rounds?

No. It only works while a round is running, so drop it once the Bloons are on screen.

What is the Pro version of Super Monkey Storm?

The Super Monkey Beacon, a placed tower with a reusable Beacon Storm ability. You unlock it by earning XP from buying and using Super Monkey Storms.
