Advanced map
Midnight Mansion
Info
Midnight Mansion is an Advanced map added in update 33.0, together with the community map Covered Garden and the Goliath Doomship paragon. The setting is a haunted mansion on a stormy night, with a portal in each upper corner and another in the middle of the room.
Layout and path. Two lanes run at the same time. Bloons come out of the portals in the top-left and top-right corners and travel along a shared track across the upper floor, each heading for the staircase on the opposite side. They go downstairs, turn back towards the middle, then go up into the exit portal in the centre. Bloons cannot be hit for a moment while they are coming out of a portal, and on-track powers cannot be placed on portals.
Fire runes. Four lines of runes are burned into the carpet: one in the middle of the upstairs track, one on each staircase and one below the exit portal. They ignite in pairs and block line of sight:
- Rounds 1, 2, 5, 6... the top and bottom runes burn.
- Rounds 3, 4, 7, 8... the left and right runes burn.
The mansion's walls block line of sight too.
Drawers. Two cluttered drawers sit upstairs, one beside each portal. Clearing each costs $250 ($500 total). They are the only spots that fit larger towers such as Monkey Villages, Spike Factories, Mortars, Super Monkeys and Monkey Aces (one per drawer), and towers on them are not blocked by the fire.
Space limits. Heli Pilots and Banana Farms cannot be placed anywhere on this map, and there is no water. Oddly, Rosalia can be placed almost anywhere.
High ground: the two drawers. Water: none.
Midnight Mansion is moderately hard in CHIMPS, but it is widely considered the hardest map for deep Freeplay because there is no room for farms and big late-game towers.
How to beat Midnight Mansion
Map overview for strategy
The upper floor is the heart of Midnight Mansion. Both lanes share it, and every bloon also passes either the top-left or top-right corner on the way to the stairs. That means a compact defence in one top corner hits bloons from both portals. Once bloons reach the stairs and the lower floor, they split and become much harder to cover.
Key ideas:
- Pick a corner. Concentrate your towers above the left or right staircase. The right corner is a common choice for Tack Shooters and Sauda.
- Use the drawers wisely. With only two spots for large towers, each drawer should hold something important: a Village, a Sniper or Psi (who see the whole map from there), or a Spike Factory.
- Respect the runes. Fire blocks line of sight every round in a different place. Towers on drawers ignore it; everything else should be placed so it still sees its main target area.
- Stall the top. The part of the track your towers cover well is short, so stuns and slows are very valuable.
Best towers
- Tack Shooter 2-0-4 or 2-0-5 (Overdrive, The Tack Zone): the bends near the top corners suit them perfectly. Overdrive is great value and helps save for a win condition; Tack Zone with Embrittlement, Stronger Stimulant and Primary Training is especially strong on round 100.
- Glue Gunner 0-2-5 (Super Glue): its splats stun huge groups and blimps on the short covered section, which is exactly what this map needs.
- Boomerang Monkey 5-2-0 (Glaive Lord): a common late-game win condition saved up for with Overdrive.
- Ice Monkey 4-0-1 or 4-2-0 (Embrittlement): at the corner where the upper floor meets the stairs.
- Alchemist 3-0-1 or 4-0-1: brew on your Tack Shooter.
- Sniper Monkey on a drawer: sees the entire map, ignoring fire and walls; a 4-0-2 Maim MOAB is ideal.
- Monkey Village 2-2-0 on a drawer: the only place it fits.
Best heroes
- Sauda: beginner-friendly and the standard choice. Place her in the top-left or top-right corner. She trivialises the early game, works brilliantly with stuns like Super Glue, and her Sword Charge does double damage on the upstairs section because both lanes overlap there.
- Psi: on a drawer, Psi sees and hits the whole map.
- Rosalia: fits almost anywhere and offers solid flexible damage.
- Obyn or Geraldo: reasonable support options in a corner build.
Easy and Medium
Put Sauda or a Dart Monkey in a top corner, add a Tack Shooter at the same corner and work it towards 2-0-4. Clear one drawer for $250 and place a Village 0-2-0 there before round 24. A 0-3-2 MOAB Mauler or Overdrive with brew handles round 40. Finish with Tack Zone or Glaive Lord.
Hard
Build everything around one top corner: Sauda, Tack 2-0-4, Ice 4-0-1, Alchemist 3-0-1 and a Village on the nearby drawer. Add a Sniper on the other drawer for blimp stuns and upgrade to Super Glue or Glaive Lord for the late game.
CHIMPS
A reliable Sauda and Tack route for CHIMPS:
- Round 1: Sauda in the top-right corner, where she hits bloons from both portals.
- Rounds 2 to 15: Tack Shooter near Sauda on the bend, upgraded towards 0-0-3. Add a cheap Dart near the stairs if needed.
- Rounds 16 to 30: clear the nearby drawer ($250) and place a Village, 0-2-0 by round 24 for camo. Tack to 2-0-4 Overdrive.
- Rounds 31 to 50: Alchemist 3-0-1 on the Overdrive, Village to 2-2-0. Ice Monkey towards 4-0-1 at the top of the stairs. Overdrive plus Sauda handle round 40.
- Rounds 51 to 70: Glue Gunner towards 0-2-4 Relentless Glue, then save for Super Glue. Clear the second drawer for a 4-0-2 Maim MOAB Sniper.
- Rounds 71 to 90: upgrade to 0-2-5 Super Glue. Start a Boomerang towards 5-2-0 Glaive Lord, or push the Tack to Tack Zone with Embrittlement and a 4-0-1 Alchemist.
- Rounds 90 to 100: DDTs are covered by Village camo and Embrittlement. For round 100, stun the BAD with Super Glue and Maim while Sauda and the Tack Zone burn it down.
Impoppable
The same corner build works well. Get the Village drawer early and add Relentless Glue sooner, as leaks past the top corner are hard to recover from.
Freeplay
Midnight Mansion is notoriously hard past round 100: no Banana Farms, no Heli Pilots and only two large-tower spots, so many late-game tools like a Vengeful True Sun God or Goliath Doomship are not available.
Dangerous rounds on this map
- Round 24: first camo; your Village must be on a drawer in range of your corner.
- Round 40: first MOAB; blimps are briefly immune when leaving portals.
- Round 63: a ceramic rush through the short covered top section.
- Rounds 95 to 100: DDTs and the BAD; stuns from Super Glue and Maim are crucial.

Frequently asked questions
How much does it cost to clear the drawers on Midnight Mansion?
$250 each, $500 for both. They are the only spots for large towers like Villages, Spike Factories and Aces.
Can you place a Heli Pilot on Midnight Mansion?
No. Heli Pilots and Banana Farms cannot be placed anywhere on this map.
What do the fire runes do?
They block line of sight in alternating pairs every two rounds. Towers on the drawers are not affected.
What is the best hero for Midnight Mansion?
Sauda in a top corner. Her Sword Charge does double damage upstairs where both lanes overlap.
How do you beat Midnight Mansion CHIMPS?
Build around Sauda and a 2-0-4 Tack Shooter in the top-right corner, with a Village on a drawer, Embrittlement, Super Glue and a Maim MOAB Sniper for the late game.
Why is Midnight Mansion so hard in Freeplay?
There is no room for farms and only two large-tower spots, so the usual Freeplay towers do not fit.
