Regular bloon
Diamond Bloon
Info
The Diamond Bloon is a gem-like bloon that Diamondback, the seventh Boss Bloon, throws onto the track when it reaches a skull. Its whole gimmick is a damage cap: every hit deals exactly 1 damage, no matter how strong the attack is. A Crossbow Master bolt and a basic dart do the same thing to it, so the only way to pop it quickly is to hit it many times. When it finally breaks, it releases one Fortified Ceramic Bloon. Diamond Bloons are a common reason Diamondback runs fail, so plan a fast-hitting cleanup before the first skull that spawns them.
- Type: regular-size bloon spawned by a boss, not MOAB-class
- Health: 80 for the standard version; Diamondback's Diamond Bloons use tier-based health (below)
- RBE: 194 for the standard version
- Damage taken: exactly 1 per hit, and damage over time deals 1 per tick
- Pierce cost: every projectile that hits it loses 5 extra pierce
- Immune to: slows, stuns, freezing, knockback and blowback; instant-kill effects such as Druid of the Jungle's vines do not work
- Releases: 1 Fortified Ceramic Bloon
- Speed: 1.2× Red Bloon speed; the ones from Normal Diamondback move about a third slower
- Added: version 52.0 with Frontier Legends, in the main game with Diamondback since version 54.0
Diamond Bloon health by Diamondback tier
Because each hit deals 1 damage, health is simply the number of hits needed.
- Tier 1: none on Normal, 50 on Elite
- Tier 2: 30 on Normal, 60 on Elite
- Tier 3: 40 on Normal, 70 on Elite
- Tier 4: 50 on Normal, 80 on Elite
- Tier 5: 75 on Normal, 100 on Elite
In the main game you meet Diamond Bloons wherever Diamondback appears: Boss Events, Boss Challenge, Boss Rush, Contested Territory and Rogue Legends, where their health scales on its own curve.
How to pop Diamond Bloon
Diamond Bloons flip the usual boss logic. Against Diamondback itself you want huge damage. Against its Diamond Bloons, damage per hit is worthless and hits per second is everything. A defense that melts the boss can still bleed lives to a single skull wave if nothing on the track attacks fast enough.
Why big hits fail
Every attack deals exactly 1 damage to a Diamond Bloon. That single rule turns most boss killers into weak cleanup:
- Slow, heavy attacks such as Sniper Monkeys, Cripple MOAB, MOAB Domination or Desperado shots deal 1 damage per shot, the same as a basic dart.
- Damage buffs do nothing. Extra damage from Embrittlement, Glue Strike, Primary Expertise or Alchemist brews is capped away.
- Pierce drains fast. Each hit costs a projectile 5 extra pierce, so piercing shots stop after one or two Diamonds.
- Crowd control fails. Freezing, glue slowdown, stuns, knockback and blowback have no effect, so you cannot buy time.
What still matters is how many separate projectiles, or damage ticks, connect with the bloon every second.
What pops Diamond Bloons best
Fast multi-projectile towers
- Overdrive and The Tack Zone (Tack Shooter bottom path). A flood of tacks every second, and a 2-0-4 Overdrive is affordable by the first Diamond wave on Normal.
- Bloonjitsu (Ninja Monkey top path tier 4). Five shurikens per throw at a high attack rate.
- Super Monkey Fan Club (Dart Monkey bottom path tier 4). Its ability turns nearby Dart Monkeys into Super Monkeys, which shreds a skull wave when you time it right.
- M.O.A.R Glaives (Boomerang Monkey top path tier 4). Lots of glaives bouncing through groups. A 4-2-0 crosspath adds attack speed.
- Destroyer (Monkey Buccaneer top path tier 3). A very high fire rate for its price.
- Dragon's Breath (Wizard Monkey middle path tier 3). A constant stream of fire that hits many times per second.
- Druids, which throw several thorns with every attack.
Damage over time
Damage over time also deals 1 per tick, so fast-ticking effects are very efficient. Bloon Liquefier (Glue Gunner top path tier 4) is one of the best answers to Diamond Bloons: the glue's slow does nothing, but its corrosion keeps ticking. Burn effects such as Wall of Fire add steady chip damage too.
Heroes
- Quincy at higher levels fires several arrows quickly.
- Sauda hits everything around her many times per second with her swords.
- Captain Churchill from level 5, when he gets his machine gun.
Support that actually helps
Only buffs that add attack speed, projectiles or pierce are worth it here:
- Jungle Drums, Call to Arms and Homeland Defense (Monkey Village) for attack speed.
- Overclock (Engineer Monkey) on your best cleanup tower.
- Berserker Brew, Stronger Stimulant or Permanent Brew (Alchemist) for their attack speed and pierce, not their damage.
Towers to avoid as your Diamond answer
- Sniper Monkey and Desperado: too few hits per second.
- Spike Factory: every Diamond drains spike piles quickly, and Spike Storm loses most of its value.
- Ice Monkey and slowing Glue Gunners: freezes and slows do nothing, although a Liquefier's damage still counts.
- Big single hits from Cripple MOAB, MOAB Domination, the Ballistic Obliteration Missile Bunker and similar towers.
These towers can still be excellent against Diamondback itself. Just make sure something else handles the Diamonds.
Where to place your cleanup
Diamondback sprays its skull waves from its body, so Diamond Bloons can appear anywhere along its length, not only near the entrance. Spread fast-attacking towers along the track instead of stacking them all at the front, and keep at least one strong cleanup tower near the exit as a last line. Corners where the track doubles back let one tower hit the same wave twice.
Also plan for what comes next. Each popped Diamond releases a Fortified Ceramic, which has a 20-health shell and then two Rainbows. Pair your high hit-rate tower with some area damage so those Ceramics do not slip through.
Plan by tier
- Normal tier 1 (round 40): no Diamond Bloons. Spend on boss damage, but start your cleanup.
- Normal tier 2 (round 60): the first Diamonds, 30 hits each. A 2-0-4 Overdrive or a Destroyer plus a good hero usually covers it.
- Normal tiers 3 to 5: 40, 50 and then 75 hits each, with bigger skull waves. Add a second and third cleanup tower and upgrade toward The Tack Zone or Bloon Liquefier.
- Elite: Diamonds arrive from tier 1 with 50 hits and climb to 100 by tier 5. Build the cleanup before the first skull, even if it delays your boss damage.
Diamond Bloons outside Boss Events
- Boss Rush: Diamondback has no skulls there, but it adds Diamond Bloons to its spawns after enough pops.
- Rogue Legends: Diamond health scales differently, so test your cleanup early in a run.
- Sandbox: if you own Frontier Legends and have popped a Diamond Bloon there, you can spawn the standard version to test a defense.

Frequently asked questions
How many hits does a Diamond Bloon take?
The standard Diamond Bloon takes 80 hits. From Diamondback it takes 30, 40, 50 or 75 hits on Normal tiers 2 to 5, and 50 to 100 on Elite.
What does a Diamond Bloon release when popped?
One Fortified Ceramic Bloon, which still has a 20-health shell and two Rainbows inside.
Can you slow or freeze Diamond Bloons?
No. They ignore slows, freezing, stuns, knockback and blowback.
What is the best tower against Diamond Bloons?
Towers with many hits per second: Overdrive or The Tack Zone, Bloonjitsu, Super Monkey Fan Club and Bloon Liquefier are the most reliable.
Does damage over time work on Diamond Bloons?
Yes. Each tick deals 1 damage, so fast-ticking effects like Bloon Liquefier are very efficient.
Does Diamondback spawn Diamond Bloons at tier 1?
Not on Normal. Elite Diamondback spawns them from tier 1.
