How to use Crossbow Master
Crossbow Master is the bottom path tier 5 Dart Monkey. Compared with Sharp Shooter it gains +2 damage (8 per bolt), pierce of 8, a big range increase to 80 (83 with Crossbow Reach) and the normal damage type, so it pops every bloon type including lead. It fires two parallel bolts per shot, attacks about every 0.24 seconds, and every 5th shot is a crit for 80 damage. It keeps camo detection.
The Master Double Cross Monkey Knowledge lets you own two Crossbow Masters at the same time, which is unique among tier 5 upgrades.
When to buy it
Crossbow Master is cheap for a tier 5, easy to place and needs no outside lead or camo support. On beginner maps and simple single-lane intermediate maps it can carry a defense deep into the game.
- 0-2-5 is the standard for single-target damage, cutting the cooldown to about 0.16 seconds.
- 2-0-5 raises pierce to 24 and is better for clearing dense groups down a long straight.
Its main weakness is damage per hit against super ceramics after round 80. It needs buffs to reach its potential: Berserker Brew for damage, pierce and speed, Primary Training for speed and pierce, and Abyssal Warrior for even more pierce.
Is it worth it?
It is a good value tier 5 for casual play and an easy way to get a lead-popping, camo-detecting damage tower. Compared with Ultra-Juggernaut it does not depend on walls, and compared with Plasma Monkey Fan Club it gives constant damage instead of bursts. In CHIMPS it can pierce-cap during dense ceramic rounds such as round 63 without support, and it lacks the damage for the final rounds alone. In Boss Events it is usually outclassed by stronger single-target tier 5s.
