Spike-o-pult

Spike-o-pult replaces darts with a catapult that throws large spiked balls. Each ball deals 2 damage with 18 pierce (up from 5 at the most), travels for longer and bounces off walls and obstacles, letting it hit the same bloons again. The trade-offs: it fires every 1.15 seconds instead of 0.95, the balls move at half the speed, and the tower gains only a small range bump to 36.8. The damage type changes so it can pop frozen bloons, but it still cannot pop lead.

When to buy it

Spike-o-pult is an early-game tower for maps packed with obstacles, such as Cornfield, where a single ball can rattle around and burn through all of its pierce. It is also popular in Races because it is cheap and has high pierce for the price.

• 3-2-0 is the standard crosspath. The attack speed crosspath cuts the cooldown to about 0.77 seconds, which is the biggest DPS gain available.
• 3-0-2 adds range and camo detection, but rarely does enough to justify losing the speed.

On open maps it struggles to use its pierce, and options like Glaive Ricochet or a Ninja Monkey often do the early-game job better.

Is it worth it?

On obstacle-heavy maps and in Races, yes, it is one of the best value tier 3s at this price. Elsewhere it is mostly a step toward Juggernaut.
