Hedge
Info
Hedge is one of the original Beginner maps from BTD6's launch. It is a neat formal garden, with a paved path winding between rows of tall hedges and a Dart Monkey statue in the centre.
Bloons enter from the left and weave back and forth between the hedges before leaving on the right. There is a single lane with one entrance and one exit, and the track is 43.78 RBS long (about 1,204 range units), an average length for a Beginner map.
The hedges are what make this map different. They cannot be removed, and they block line of sight for most towers. A tower that needs to see its target, such as a Sniper, Dart Monkey, Super Monkey or Dartling Gunner, can be completely wasted if a hedge sits between it and the track. The hedges on the far left and far right each have a gap in the middle that towers can shoot through, which is worth remembering when you place long-range towers.
There is no water on Hedge, so water towers need a Portable Lake or Pontoon. There is no high ground and there are no removable objects. Tapping the Dart Monkey statue in the middle rotates it by 90 degrees, but this is purely cosmetic.
Because of the hedges, Hedge is often ranked alongside Town Center and Lotus Island as one of the trickiest Beginner maps. It punishes careless tower placement much more than open maps like Monkey Meadow or Four Circle. On the other hand, the path weaves tightly between the hedge rows, so a tower placed in the right gap can hit several stretches of track, and towers that ignore line of sight completely, like Mortars, Heli Pilots, Monkey Aces and Spike Factories, are not affected at all.
How to beat Hedge
Map overview for strategy
Hedge is a placement puzzle. The path snakes between hedge rows, so a tower in the right lane between two hedges hits bloons going both ways. The same tower placed one row over can be almost useless, because the hedges block its view.
Before you place anything, check the range circle and ask whether a hedge sits between the tower and the path. Towers placed directly beside the path inside a lane between hedges are the safest. Long-range towers should either sit where they can see down a lane, look through the gaps in the left and right hedges, or be towers that do not need line of sight at all.
Best towers
- Ninja Monkey 4-0-1 and 2-0-4: short range, so placed in a lane right next to the path it is not bothered by the hedges.
- Alchemist 4-2-0: buffs and acid both work at close range.
- Tack Shooter 2-0-4: in a tight lane between hedges it hits bloons on both sides.
- Mortar Monkey 2-0-4 or 0-2-4: ignores line of sight completely and can sit anywhere.
- Heli Pilot 4-0-2 (Apache Dartship): flies over the hedges, so it never has vision problems.
- Monkey Ace: also flies, and a 2-0-4 Spectre is a strong mid-game damage dealer.
- Spike Factory 2-0-5 (Perma-Spike): near the exit as a safety net.
- Monkey Village 2-2-0: radar and speed for the lane towers.
Best heroes
- Obyn Greenfoot: a good fit for a magic build, and his brambles and totem do not care about hedges.
- Striker Jones: buffs Mortars and Bomb Shooters, which is exactly what you want on a line-of-sight map.
- Sauda: placed in a lane between hedges, she hits both stretches of path.
- Etienne: his drones fly over obstacles and give strong support.
Easy and Medium
Start with a Dart Monkey placed directly beside the path, then add a Ninja in a lane between hedges. A Mortar Monkey anywhere on the map handles leads. Add Banana Farms in spots that would block vision anyway. A Heli Pilot and a 4-0-1 Ninja will win Medium.
Hard
Farm two or three Banana Farms, then build a Ninja, Alchemist and Tack Shooter in the busiest lane. Add a 2-2-0 Village and a Mortar for extra damage. For MOABs, an Apache Dartship and Sticky Bomb Ninjas are reliable because neither is bothered by hedges.
CHIMPS
- Rounds 1 to 6: hero in a lane between hedges, plus one or two Dart Monkeys placed right beside the path where they can see it.
- Rounds 7 to 18: a Ninja Monkey in the busiest lane, upgraded to 2-0-1 before round 24.
- Rounds 19 to 30: an Alchemist next to the Ninja for leads on round 28.
- Rounds 31 to 45: Ninja to 4-0-1, Alchemist to 3-2-0. Add a Mortar Monkey (2-0-3 or 0-2-3) that can target anywhere.
- Rounds 46 to 63: a 2-2-0 Village and a 2-0-4 Sticky Bomb Ninja. A 4-2-0 Glaive in the lane helps on round 63.
- Rounds 64 to 80: Alchemist to 4-2-0, a Heli Pilot towards 4-0-2 Apache Dartship, and a second Sticky Bomb.
- Rounds 81 to 100: an Apache Prime (5-0-2) or a Sun Temple placed where it can actually see the track. Add more Sticky Bombs for 98 and 99, and keep the Village radar over your Ninjas for the camo DDTs.
The biggest mistake on Hedge is buying an expensive tower that cannot see the track. Check every placement before you commit.
Impoppable
Farms fit well in spots where hedges would block other towers anyway. Build the same lane defense, then rely on an Apache Prime and Sticky Bombs for the late game.
Other modes
- Deflation: Ninjas, an Alchemist and a Heli Pilot are efficient and ignore most hedge problems.
- Military Only: Mortars, Heli Pilots and Monkey Aces are the best picks here, since none of them need vision.
- Half Cash: Sauda in a lane and a Ninja carry the early game.
Dangerous rounds on this map
- Round 24: the first camo green. Make sure your camo detection actually sees the path.
- Round 28: six leads. A Mortar or Alchemist is the simplest answer.
- Round 40: the first MOAB. A Heli Pilot or Sticky Bomb avoids vision problems.
- Round 63: 122 dense ceramics. Hedges cut many towers' effective coverage, so put more damage in your best lane.
- Round 76: 60 regrow ceramics. Leaks behind a hedge can be out of reach for most of your towers.
- Round 78: camo ceramics and purples. Purples resist fire, energy and plasma.
- Round 95: camo regrow purples, fortified leads, MOABs and DDTs.
- Round 98: 30 fortified BFBs and 8 ZOMGs. Apache Prime and Sticky Bombs carry this round.
- Round 99: 60 MOABs and 9 fortified DDTs.
- Round 100: one BAD that ignores slows.

Frequently asked questions
Why is Hedge harder than other Beginner maps?
The hedges block line of sight. Towers placed on the wrong side of a hedge cannot see the bloons, so placement matters a lot more than on open maps.
Which towers ignore line of sight on Hedge?
Mortar Monkeys, Heli Pilots, Monkey Aces and Spike Factories are not affected by the hedges.
Does Hedge have water?
No. You need a Portable Lake or Pontoon power to use water towers.
What is the best hero for Hedge?
Striker Jones with Mortars, or Obyn Greenfoot with a magic build. Sauda is strong early if you place her in a lane.
How do you beat Hedge CHIMPS?
Build Ninjas and an Alchemist in the busiest lane, add a Mortar for leads, then a Village, Sticky Bombs and an Apache Dartship. Finish with Apache Prime or a Sun Temple that can see the track.
How much Monkey Money does Hedge give?
First-time medals pay 75, 125, 200 and 300 Monkey Money for the Easy, Medium, Hard and Impoppable/CHIMPS tiers. Replays pay one fifth.
