Support tower
Engineer Monkey
Holds a trusty nail-gun to pop the Bloons. Can upgrade to create its own nail-shooting sentry turrets.
Info
The Engineer Monkey is a Support tower that fires sharp nails from a nail gun. It costs $350 on Medium, attacks quickly for its price and each nail pops up to 3 Bloons. By default its nails cannot pop Lead or Frozen Bloons, and it cannot see Camo Bloons.
The Engineer's real value is in its utility: it can build sentries, spray foam that strips Bloon properties, boost another tower with Overclock, pin Bloons in place, or set traps that catch Bloons for cash.
The three paths
- Top path (Sentry Gun to Sentry Champion): sentries. Sentry Gun deploys small temporary sentries in its range, Faster Engineering builds them twice as often, Sprockets doubles the attack speed of the nail gun and new sentries, Sentry Expert builds four kinds of specialised sentries, and Sentry Champion builds Champion Sentries that explode when they expire.
- Middle path (Larger Service Area to Ultraboost): support. Larger Service Area adds range, Deconstruction adds damage against MOAB-class and Fortified Bloons, Cleansing Foam sprays foam that removes Camo, Regrow and Lead properties from Bloons that touch it, Overclock adds an ability that greatly speeds up a chosen tower for a while, and Ultraboost makes those boosts stack permanently.
- Bottom path (Oversize Nails to XXXL Trap): control and traps. Oversize Nails adds pierce and lets the nails pop Frozen Bloons, Pin stuns the next layer of Bloons it hits, Double Gun doubles attack speed, Bloon Trap places a trap that catches Bloons and pays out cash when full, and XXXL Trap can also catch MOAB-class Bloons except BADs and bosses.
Camo and Lead within its own upgrades
- Camo and Lead: Cleansing Foam (x-3-x) does not give the Engineer Camo detection, but its foam strips Camo, Regrow and Lead from every Bloon that passes through it, which helps your whole defense.
- Frozen: Oversize Nails (x-x-1) changes the nails to Shatter damage, which pops Frozen Bloons.
Paragon
The Engineer Monkey's Paragon is the Master Builder ($600,000 on Medium). It fires nails that pin almost any Bloon in place, builds powerful sentries, and boosts other towers at the end of each round.

How to use Engineer Monkey
The Engineer Monkey is one of the most useful support towers in Bloons TD 6. Cleansing Foam is a cheap way to strip Camo, Regrow and Lead, Overclock and Ultraboost make a carry tower much stronger, and sentries and traps give it real damage and income options.
Best crosspaths
0-3-2 or 2-3-0 Cleansing Foam
Cleansing Foam sprays foam on a spot of the track that removes Camo, Regrow and Lead properties from every Bloon touching it. It is one of the cheapest property removers in the game. 0-3-2 adds Pin to stun Bloons; 2-3-0 builds sentries faster.
0-4-0 to 0-4-2 Overclock
Overclock's ability greatly increases the attack speed of a chosen tower for a while (and the range of a Village). Use it on your strongest carry, such as a Sun Avatar, Glaive Lord or Dartling Gunner. It also works well on Spike Factories, where faster production means many more spikes.
0-5-0 to 0-5-2 Ultraboost
Ultraboost works like Overclock, but each use also leaves a small permanent attack speed boost on the target that stacks up over time. Over a long game, one tower can become far stronger.
2-0-4 or 0-2-4 Bloon Trap
Bloon Trap catches Bloons, destroys them, and pays out cash when collected. In income modes it is both defense and income.
4-2-0 or 4-0-2 Sentry Expert
Sentry Expert builds four kinds of sentries with different damage types. A solid mid-game damage option that covers many Bloon types.
2-0-5 XXXL Trap and 5-2-0 Sentry Champion
XXXL Trap catches MOAB-class Bloons except BADs and bosses. Sentry Champion builds sentries that explode for big damage when they expire.
Early game
A base Engineer is a decent cheap tower: it attacks fast, and its nails have 3 pierce. Sentry Gun (1-x-x) adds extra damage across its range, and Oversize Nails (x-x-1) adds pierce and Frozen popping.
In CHIMPS, an early Engineer is less common than Dart Monkeys or a hero, but it can work on maps with tight bends. It has no Camo detection for its own nails, so plan round 24 with another tower.
Mid game
Most Engineers in the mid game are supports:
- Property removal: a 0-3-2 Cleansing Foam aimed at the start of your defense strips Camo, Regrow and Lead. That turns Camo Leads and Regrow rounds into easy rounds for your other towers.
- Damage support: save up for Overclock and use it on your main carry every time it is ready.
- Damage: a 4-2-0 Sentry Expert adds real damage of several types.
Aiming the foam
Cleansing Foam sprays at a target point you choose within its range. Aim it near the start of your kill zone, at a spot every Bloon must pass, so the properties are stripped before Bloons reach your main damage. Remember the foam does not pop Bloons itself; it only changes them.
Using Overclock well
Overclock is an ability, so its value depends on how often you use it. Turn on auto-ability only if the target is always the same; otherwise use it manually on whichever tower matters most in the current round. Good targets are towers that already attack fast and deal a lot of damage per hit, because the extra attack speed multiplies that damage. A Village is also a good target when you want a bigger buff radius for a moment. Avoid using it on support towers that do not attack, since there is nothing to speed up.
Sentries and Pin
The top and bottom paths add damage and control on their own. Sentries pop up around the Engineer and fight for a short time, so the Engineer should sit close to a busy part of the track. Pin stuns the next layer of a Bloon each time a nail hits it, which is a cheap stall that works well next to damage towers. On a 3-0-2 crosspath, Sprockets also lets the sentries pin Bloons.
Late game
Late-game Engineers are about multiplying another tower's power:
- Ultraboost: keep using it on one main carry. The permanent stacks add up over many rounds.
- XXXL Trap: catches MOAB-class Bloons outright, which is a strong safety net.
- Sentry Champion: strong exploding sentries around the Engineer.
The Master Builder Paragon is a late-game and boss option.
Engineer Monkey in CHIMPS
The Engineer is a strong CHIMPS support:
- Add a 0-3-2 Cleansing Foam in the mid game to deal with Camo, Regrow and Lead.
- Upgrade to Overclock in the late game and use it on your main carry.
- Consider Ultraboost for the final rounds if you can afford it.
Bloon Trap cash does not help in CHIMPS. For full CHIMPS walkthroughs, see our videos on the BTD6 Master YouTube channel.
Best heroes and tower combos
- Main carries: Overclock and Ultraboost work best on a tower that already deals a lot of damage.
- Spike Factory: Overclock boosts production speed, which means many more spikes.
- Monkey Village: Overclock also increases a Village's range.
- Any tower without Camo or Lead: Cleansing Foam fixes both for every Bloon passing through it.
Tier 5 upgrades: are they worth it?
Sentry Champion (5-x-x). Strong damage, but less important than the other two in most setups.
Ultraboost (x-5-x). One of the best support tier 5s for long games. The permanent stacks make your main carry much stronger.
XXXL Trap (x-x-5). A strong safety net against MOAB-class Bloons and good income outside CHIMPS.
Common mistakes
- Expecting Cleansing Foam to pop Bloons. It strips properties; your other towers do the popping.
- Forgetting to use Overclock. It is an ability; use it every time it is ready.
- Aiming foam where only some Bloons pass. Aim at a point every Bloon must cross.
- Relying on the Engineer's own nails against Camo. The Engineer cannot see Camo itself.
Frequently asked questions
What is the best Engineer Monkey path?
0-3-2 Cleansing Foam for property removal, 0-4-x Overclock and 0-5-x Ultraboost for boosting a carry, and 2-0-4 Bloon Trap for income modes.
Can Engineer Monkey see camo?
No. Cleansing Foam (x-3-x) removes Camo from Bloons, but the Engineer's own nails never get Camo detection.
Can Engineer Monkey pop lead?
Its nails cannot. Cleansing Foam removes the Lead property from Bloons so other towers can pop them.
Does Cleansing Foam remove Fortified?
No. It removes Camo, Regrow and Lead. Deconstruction (x-2-x) adds damage to Fortified Bloons, and Bloon Traps with Deconstruction remove Fortified before trapping Bloons.
What does Overclock do?
It greatly increases the attack speed of a chosen tower for a while, and the range of a Monkey Village.
Is Engineer Monkey good in CHIMPS?
Yes, as support. Cleansing Foam and Overclock are common CHIMPS picks.
What is the Engineer Monkey Paragon?
Master Builder, which costs $600,000 on Medium.
