Monkey Knowledge
Ambush Tech
Ambush Tech in BTD6 lets a Tech Bot fire abilities only when bloons reach a chosen part of the track. Best abilities to ambush and ones to avoid.
Tech Bot gains a targeting option to trigger only when Bloons enter a specific track area.
Guide
Ambush Tech gives the Tech Bot power a new targeting option: instead of firing the linked tower's ability as soon as it is ready, the Tech Bot waits until bloons enter a spot on the track you choose. It is a fourth-row Powers knowledge that needs 3 points in the Powers tree and Supersize Glue Trap, plus a one-time fee of 250 Monkey Money. The upgraded Tech Bot Prime can set an ambush without this knowledge.
How it changes the game
A normal Tech Bot is linked to one tower and fires its ability the moment it comes off cooldown. That is ideal for abilities you want up all the time, but wasteful for abilities that only hit what is in front of them. Fired with no bloons nearby, a strong ability goes on cooldown for nothing.
With Ambush Tech, you set a target area on the track and the Tech Bot holds the ability until bloons arrive there. Good uses:
- Area abilities. Tack Shooter's Blade Maelstrom and similar abilities that hit everything around the tower work best when the bloons are right in front of it.
- Burst damage. Abilities that buff a tower for a few seconds, such as the Boomerang's Turbo Charge, should fire when the wave is in range, not on an empty track.
- AFK and long games. For freeplay or collection grinding, it saves you from timing abilities by hand.
Abilities you should not ambush are the ones that make money or should fire on cooldown no matter what, such as Supply Drop or Jungle's Bounty. Leave those on the normal Tech Bot setting. If you unlink the Tech Bot from its tower, the target location is cleared.
Is it worth it?
Priority: situational. It is a nice quality-of-life upgrade for Tech Bot users, and almost useless for everyone else. It is the end of its branch, so it does not unlock anything.
In the fourth row of the Powers tree, Pre-Game Prep is much more valuable and Fit Farmers leads to more knowledge. Buy Ambush Tech after those, unless you already use Tech Bots in every long game.
Where it works
This knowledge only matters where both Monkey Knowledge and Powers are allowed. Powers cannot be used in CHIMPS, Races or ranked Boss Events, and challenge creators can disable them. In Contested Territory, MK is only active on regular tiles. Rogue Legends never uses MK.
