Ability Discipline
Ability Discipline in BTD6 cuts the cooldown of every hero level 10 ability by 10%. Which abilities benefit and why it leads to Ability Mastery.
Hero level 10 Ability cooldowns reduced by 10%.
Guide
Ability Discipline reduces the cooldown of every hero's level 10 ability by 10%. It is a top-row Heroes knowledge with no prerequisite and costs one Knowledge Point and no Monkey Money.
Level 10 abilities are usually a hero's big moment: Quincy's Storm of Arrows, Captain Churchill's MOAB Barrage, Adora's Blood Sacrifice, Benjamin's Syphon Funding, Admiral Brickell's Mega Mine and Etienne's UCAV are all level 10 abilities. With this knowledge they come back 10% sooner.
How it changes the game
A 10% shorter cooldown means about 11% more uses over a game. On abilities with long cooldowns, that is a real gain. The ability is ready a few seconds earlier for the next hard round, and over a long game you get extra casts you would not have had.
How much it matters depends on the hero:
- Damage abilities like MOAB Barrage or Storm of Arrows help clear blimp and ceramic rounds, so more frequent casts make tough rounds easier.
- Economy and buff abilities such as Syphon Funding or Blood Sacrifice give more value per use the more often you can trigger them.
- Heroes whose level 10 ability is minor gain less.
It does nothing until your hero reaches level 10, so it has no effect in the early rounds. On Beginner maps, where heroes level slowly, level 10 can come quite late. Combined with the XP knowledge in this tree, it starts helping earlier.
Ability Discipline and Ability Mastery affect different abilities: Discipline covers the level 10 ability, Mastery the level 3 ability at level 20. They do not overlap.
Is it worth it?
Priority: good. It is the strongest direct effect in the top row of the Heroes tree, and it leads to Ability Mastery and then Big Bloon Blueprints and Weak Point, which add hero damage against blimps, ceramics and fortified bloons.
Compared with Heroic Reach and More 'Splody, Ability Discipline helps more heroes in more games. Take it early, then complete the other two branches for Hero Favors and Empowered Heroes.
Where it works
Ability Discipline works in all modes with Monkey Knowledge enabled and heroes allowed, including Impoppable and Boss Events. It is off in CHIMPS, so level 10 ability timings there use the base cooldown. Challenges with MK disabled and Rogue Legends also ignore it.
