Primary tower
Bomb Shooter
Launches a powerful bomb at the Bloons. Slow rate of fire but affects a radius around the explosion.
Info
The Bomb Shooter is a Primary Monkey that fires slow bombs which explode in an area. It costs $375 on Medium and deals Explosion damage, which is great for groups of Bloons but has one well-known gap: by default it cannot pop Black Bloons or Zebra Bloons. It can pop Lead Bloons from the start, and it cannot see Camo Bloons with its normal attack.
Its low tiers are weak for the price, but from tier 3 onward almost every Bomb Shooter upgrade is useful.
The three paths
- Top path (Bigger Bombs to Bloon Crush): bigger, heavier bombs. Really Big Bombs knocks Bloons back, Bloon Impact stuns regular Bloons on hit, and Bloon Crush deals massive damage, pops Black Bloons and can stun MOAB-class Bloons.
- Middle path (Faster Reload to MOAB Eliminator): missiles that fire faster and fly further, then the anti-MOAB line. MOAB Mauler adds heavy MOAB damage, MOAB Assassin adds an ability that fires a powerful missile at a MOAB-class Bloon, and MOAB Eliminator makes that ability much stronger with a short cooldown.
- Bottom path (Extra Range to Bomb Blitz): Frag Bombs adds sharp fragments, Cluster Bombs and Recursive Cluster turn each shot into a chain of smaller bombs, and Bomb Blitz adds a passive Bomb Storm that wipes the screen when lives would be lost.
Camo and Black within its own upgrades
- Black and Zebra: Frag Bombs (x-x-2) throws sharp fragments that can damage Black Bloons. Bloon Crush (5-x-x) lets the main explosion pop Black Bloons too.
- Camo: the normal attack never gets Camo detection. Only the Bomb Blitz passive ability affects Camo Bloons, so use a Monkey Village, a hero or another camo answer.
Paragon
The Bomb Shooter's Paragon is the Ballistic Obliteration Missile Bunker (B.O.M.B.), which costs $650,000 on Medium. It combines cluster explosions, anti-MOAB explosions, stuns and knockback in a single tower.

How to use Bomb Shooter
The Bomb Shooter is a tower you build around the mid game. Its tier 1 and 2 upgrades are not great value, but MOAB Mauler, MOAB Assassin, Recursive Cluster and Bloon Impact are some of the most reliable mid-game tools in Bloons TD 6.
Best crosspaths
0-3-2 MOAB Mauler
A cheap and very effective anti-MOAB tower. MOAB Mauler adds a large damage bonus against MOAB-class Bloons, and Frag Bombs gives it fragments that can damage Black and Zebra Bloons. Buy it before round 40 in CHIMPS and the first MOABs become easy.
0-4-2 MOAB Assassin
MOAB Assassin adds more range and MOAB damage plus an ability that fires a heavy missile at a MOAB-class Bloon. Two or three of these can handle many BFB rounds. Since version 51 the ability will not target DDTs unless the tower can damage Black Bloons, so plan extra DDT damage.
4-0-2 Bloon Impact
Bloon Impact stuns every regular Bloon its explosion hits, which stops Ceramic rushes in their tracks and gives the rest of your defense time to work. The Frag Bombs crosspath makes it throw 16 strong fragments. This is a popular support tower for the 60s and 70s.
0-2-4 or 2-0-4 Recursive Cluster
Recursive Cluster throws cluster bombs that release even more cluster bombs. It is an excellent clearer for grouped rounds. 0-2-4 attacks faster and has more range; 2-0-4 hits a bit harder per bomb.
0-5-2 MOAB Eliminator
The tier 5 version of MOAB Assassin. Its ability hits MOAB-class Bloons for six times the damage and recharges quickly. It is a cost-effective late-game MOAB answer.
5-0-2 Bloon Crush
Bloon Crush deals much more damage, pops Black Bloons and stuns MOAB-class Bloons as well as regular ones (BADs and bosses are not knocked back). With Frag Bombs the fragments become very strong too.
0-2-5 Bomb Blitz
Bomb Blitz attacks much faster with heavy cluster bombs and gets the passive Bomb Storm, which triggers when you would lose lives. Since version 57 Bomb Storm can trigger only once per round.
Early game
The Bomb Shooter is not a good tower for round 1 on most maps. If you want it early, set it to Close on a spot where Bloons bunch up, such as a tight loop, so its explosion pierce actually gets used. More often, players start with Dart Monkeys, a Sniper or a hero and add Bomb Shooters later.
If you do use one early, the cheapest useful upgrade is usually Frag Bombs on the bottom path, because the fragments add extra pierce in every direction and deal Sharp damage. The middle path's Faster Reload and Missile Launcher are also cheap and set you up for MOAB Mauler later, so a 0-2-0 or 0-2-1 Bomb Shooter can grow straight into your mid-game MOAB answer without wasting money.
Do not forget about Black Bloons. Rounds with Black and Zebra Bloons appear in the 20s, so if your Bomb Shooter is doing the popping, get Frag Bombs (x-x-2) early.
Mid game
The Bomb Shooter's main job starts around round 35. Build a 0-3-2 MOAB Mauler before round 40, then move to 0-4-2 MOAB Assassin for the BFB at round 60 and the MOAB-heavy rounds around it.
For Ceramic rushes such as round 63, Bloon Impact is the best stall in the tower. A 4-0-2 placed near the start of the track stuns the rush while your main damage clears it. If you lack area damage instead, a 0-2-4 Recursive Cluster is a strong clearer.
Late game
In the late game the Bomb Shooter fills two roles:
- MOAB control: several 0-4-2 MOAB Assassins or a 0-5-2 MOAB Eliminator. The ability does huge damage to ZOMGs and BFBs. Use auto-ability carefully, because the missile goes to the first valid MOAB-class Bloon.
- Stun support: a 5-0-2 Bloon Crush can stun MOAB-class Bloons, which slows down the heaviest late rounds.
Bomb Blitz is a safety net for leaks rather than a main damage source. The B.O.M.B. Paragon is a late-game and freeplay option.
Bomb Shooter in CHIMPS
The Bomb Shooter is one of the safest CHIMPS answers to the first MOABs. A common plan:
- Open with cheap towers or a hero.
- Build a 0-3-2 MOAB Mauler before round 40.
- Upgrade to 0-4-2 MOAB Assassin for round 60 and the BFB rounds after it.
- Add a 4-0-2 Bloon Impact for the Ceramic rush on round 63 if your main tower struggles.
Because it lacks Camo detection, make sure your setup can see Camo DDTs in the 90s. For full CHIMPS walkthroughs, see our videos on the BTD6 Master YouTube channel.
Best heroes and tower combos
- Striker Jones: the obvious hero choice. He buffs Bomb Shooters and Mortar Monkeys and helps explosions deal with Black Bloons. If your plan is built on Bomb Shooters, he is usually the best pick.
- Monkey Village: Radar Scanner gives Camo detection, which the Bomb Shooter can never get on its own.
- Ice Monkey or Glue Gunner: slowing Bloons makes the slow-firing bombs hit more often.
- Monkey Village with Jungle Drums: extra attack speed matters a lot on a slow-firing tower like the Bomb Shooter.
- Alchemist: Acid and brew support help a slow but heavy-hitting tower like MOAB Assassin.
Tier 5 upgrades: are they worth it?
Bloon Crush (5-x-x). Expensive, but stunning MOAB-class Bloons is rare and very strong. Worth it as a late-game control tower, especially with the 5-0-2 crosspath.
MOAB Eliminator (x-5-x). One of the best value tier 5 upgrades for MOAB damage. It is a common late-game pick in CHIMPS.
Bomb Blitz (x-x-5). Good as insurance on maps where a single leak would end the run, but it no longer works as a repeated emergency button: since version 57 its Bomb Storm triggers only once per round, and its cost rose in version 53.
Common mistakes
- Forgetting Black and Zebra Bloons. Explosions alone cannot pop them. Get Frag Bombs or a different tower for those rounds.
- Buying tier 1 and 2 upgrades early. They are poor value. Save up for tier 3.
- Expecting Camo detection. The normal attack never gets it.
- Letting MOAB Assassin target DDTs without Black popping. It will not fire at them, so add support.
Frequently asked questions
What is the best Bomb Shooter path?
For MOABs, 0-3-2 MOAB Mauler into 0-4-2 MOAB Assassin. For Ceramic stalls, 4-0-2 Bloon Impact. For grouped rounds, 0-2-4 Recursive Cluster.
Can Bomb Shooter pop black bloons?
Its explosions cannot. Frag Bombs (x-x-2) adds sharp fragments that can, and Bloon Crush (5-x-x) lets the main explosion pop Black Bloons.
Can Bomb Shooter pop camo?
No. Its normal attack never sees Camo Bloons. Only the Bomb Blitz passive ability hits them.
Is Bomb Shooter good in CHIMPS?
Yes, especially MOAB Mauler and MOAB Assassin for the first MOAB and BFB rounds.
Is MOAB Eliminator worth it?
Yes, in most late-game setups. Its ability deals six times the MOAB Assassin damage on a short cooldown, which makes it one of the best value tier 5 upgrades for MOAB-class Bloons.
Why is my MOAB Assassin not targeting DDTs?
Since version 51 the ability skips DDTs unless the tower can damage Black Bloons. Give it Black-popping support or use a different tower against DDTs.
What is the best hero for Bomb Shooter?
Striker Jones, because he directly buffs Bomb Shooters and Mortar Monkeys.
