Monkey Knowledge
Lingering Magic
Lingering Magic in BTD6: projectiles from Wizards, Super Monkeys, Skywardens and Druids last 20% longer. What changed in v56 and if it is worth it.
Longer projectile lifespan for Wizard Monkey, Super Monkey, Ninja Monkey, and Druid.
Guide
Lingering Magic is a first-row Magic knowledge that makes projectiles from the Wizard Monkey, Super Monkey, Skywarden and Druid last 20% longer. It has no prerequisite, costs one Knowledge Point and no Monkey Money, and unlocks Hot Magic.
Version 56 changed which towers it covers. It now affects the Skywarden, the Magic tower added in that update, and it no longer affects Ninja Monkeys. Alchemists and Mermonkeys were never included.
How it changes the game
Lifespan is how long a projectile or effect exists before it disappears. 20% more time is worth very different amounts depending on the attack:
- Wall of Fire (x-2-x Wizard Monkey): the fire wall burns 20% longer, which lets a 1-2-0 or 0-2-x Wizard keep a wall on the track almost all the time. This is the best-known use.
- Homing projectiles: Guided Magic bolts and other seeking projectiles can chase targets for longer, so they reach bloons further away.
- Druids: the vines left on the track by Druid of the Jungle and Jungle's Bounty last longer, and Druid tornadoes travel further before fading.
- Super Monkeys: most of their projectiles hit something quickly, so the gain is small.
A useful way to think about it: Lingering Magic rewards attacks that sit on the track or travel a long way, and does almost nothing for attacks that hit instantly. Plan your Magic towers with that in mind.
It does not add damage or pierce. A projectile that has used all its pierce disappears regardless of lifespan.
Is it worth it?
Priority: good. It is a modest but always-on buff, and it is excellent for Wizard players who use Wall of Fire. Its bigger value is the column below: Hot Magic, then Warm Oak and Flame Jet, Cold Front and Arcane Impale, and finally Vine Rupture and Mana Shield.
Compared with Magic Tricks, which leads to Mo' Monkey Money in two steps, Lingering Magic is usually the second Magic point. It comes before SUPER Range for most players.
Where it works
Lingering Magic works wherever Monkey Knowledge is enabled, including Magic Monkeys Only, Impoppable, Races and Boss Events. It is disabled in CHIMPS and in challenges that switch knowledge off, so a Wall of Fire with full uptime in normal games may have gaps in CHIMPS.
