Intermediate map
Haunted
Info
Haunted is an Intermediate Halloween map set on the lawn of a spooky old mansion. It was added in Version 5.0, alongside the Expert map Dark Castle and the Beginner map Frozen Over. Like every Intermediate map, it unlocks once you have won games on five different maps.
Layout and path. Two lanes are active every round. Bloons approach the house from both sides at once, run along the front of the mansion and leave on the opposite side from where they entered. The lanes overlap and fork in the middle of the map. Each lane is only about 21 red bloon seconds (RBS) long, which is on the short side for the difficulty.
Placement. The big lawn in front of the house offers lots of open space for towers. A pumpkin patch runs along the bottom of the map and also accepts towers. The fence posts around the patch do not block line of sight.
Removable objects. Two dead trees stand on either side of the doorstep. Each can be removed for $500.
Water. A small swamp with lily pads sits in the middle of the forked section of the path. It is a prime spot for water towers because it is surrounded by track.
Line of sight. The house and some scenery block vision. There is no high ground.
Details. Look closely at the second window from the right and you will see glowing eyes peeking out.
Compared to similar maps. Like Firing Range, Haunted has two fixed simultaneous lanes, but its track is much shorter and the lanes overlap more. That overlap is good news: a defence in the middle hits both groups at once. The trade-off is less time per bloon, so damage density matters more than raw range.
How to beat Haunted
Map overview for strategy
Haunted runs two lanes at the same time. Bloons come in from both sides, pass in front of the house and leave on the opposite side. The lanes overlap and fork around a small swamp in the middle. The track is short, about 21 red bloon seconds, so you have less time per bloon than on most Intermediate maps.
The upside is that both lanes come close together. Build where they overlap and every tower works on both groups. Key spots:
- The swamp in the fork. Water towers here are surrounded by track and can reach both lanes. It is the best water spot on the map.
- The lawn by the overlap. Lots of space for your main land defence.
- The doorstep trees. At $500 each, removing them opens extra space near the track. Worth it in the mid game.
With a short track, slow effects like glue and ice and high damage density are more useful than long-range snipers.
Best towers
- Monkey Sub 2-0-4 (First Strike Capability) in the swamp. It sits right in the fork and reaches both lanes.
- Monkey Buccaneer 3-2-0 (Destroyer) in the swamp is also good for early and mid-game popping across the fork.
- Ninja Monkey 4-0-1 with an Alchemist 4-2-0 on the lawn near the overlap.
- Tack Shooter 4-0-2 (Ring of Fire) next to the overlap to hit both lanes.
- Glue Gunner 2-0-3 (MOAB Glue) to buy time on the short track.
- Ice Monkey 2-0-x or 0-2-0 near the overlap to slow ceramic rushes.
- Mortar Monkey 0-2-4 (Shattering Shells) aimed at the overlap.
Best heroes
- Admiral Brickell. The swamp sits right in the fork, and her abilities boost the subs and boats there.
- Sauda. At the overlap she reaches both lanes and dominates the early game.
- Obyn Greenfoot. A good partner for a Ninja, Alchemist and Druid setup on the lawn.
- Gwendolin. Pairs with a Ring of Fire build near the overlap.
Easy and Medium
Place your hero and a Dart Monkey on the lawn where the lanes overlap. Put a sub in the swamp and upgrade it to Advanced Intel. Get camo with a Ninja before round 24 and leads with Hot Shots, a Mortar or Heat-tipped Darts before round 28. A Ballistic Missile sub handles round 40. On Medium, add an Alchemist and a second sub for round 60.
Hard
- Hero, a Dart Monkey and a sub in the swamp from round 3.
- Ninja 2-0-1 by round 24 and lead popping by round 28.
- The sub to 2-0-3 for round 40.
- Bloonjitsu with an Alchemist, a Glue Gunner and Shattering Shells by round 63.
- Two First Strike subs and MOAB Glue for the ZOMG on round 80.
CHIMPS
CHIMPS starts on round 6 with $650. A realistic plan:
- Round 6: Hero (Sauda or Brickell) at the overlap, or a Dart Monkey there plus your hero.
- Rounds 7–15: A Monkey Sub in the swamp, upgraded to 2-0-0. Add a second Dart Monkey or a Buccaneer.
- Rounds 16–23: A Ninja Monkey at 2-0-1 near the overlap for camo before round 24.
- By round 27: lead popping for round 28. The sub's Heat-tipped Darts (2-0-2) is an efficient choice.
- Rounds 30–39: The sub to 2-0-3 for round 40.
- Rounds 40–62: Ninja to 4-0-1, an Alchemist 4-2-0, the sub to 2-0-4 before round 60, a Glue Gunner 2-0-3, and a Mortar 0-2-4 or Ring of Fire before round 63.
- Rounds 63–80: A second First Strike sub, an Ice Monkey near the overlap and a Village 0-2-0. Remove the doorstep trees if you need more space. Have enough MOAB damage for round 80.
- Rounds 81–100: A third First Strike sub if space allows, more MOAB Glue and a big damage tower on the lawn. Keep camo coverage for round 95.
Impoppable
Same plan, higher prices and one life. The lawn and pumpkin patch have room for Banana Farms, and selling lets you fix early mistakes.
Other modes
- Military Only: subs and boats in the swamp plus Mortars and helis on the lawn.
- Primary Only: Tack Shooters and Glue Gunners near the overlap, with Ice Monkeys to slow rushes.
Dangerous rounds on this map
- Round 24 (camo green): two lanes of camo on a short track. Your camo tower has to sit at the overlap.
- Round 28 (leads): both lanes at once, with little time to pop them.
- Round 40 (first MOAB): short track, so slow it with glue if your MOAB damage is light.
- Round 63 (75 leads, 122 ceramics): the short track makes this one of the hardest moments on Haunted. Glue, Ice and Shattering Shells at the overlap help.
- Rounds 76 and 78: regrow ceramics, then a mixed rush with camo ceramics. Grow Blocker and good camo coverage are key.
- Round 95: camo leads and DDTs on a short track.
- Rounds 98 to 100: fortified BFBs, ZOMGs, fortified DDTs and the BAD. MOAB Glue plus First Strike subs in the swamp do the heavy lifting.
