How to use Heat-tipped Darts

Heat-tipped Darts changes the damage type of the Sub's darts so they can pop Lead and Frozen Bloons. On Bloontonium Reactor and Energizer, it also lets the submerged damage pulse pop Lead and adds extra damage against Lead Bloons.

When to buy it

As a standalone Lead answer it is expensive: a Full Metal Jacket Sniper, a basic Bomb Shooter or a basic Alchemist all pop Lead for less. Most of the time you buy it because it is the step to Ballistic Missile.

As a crosspath it only matters when the Sub has to pop Lead on its own:

  • 4-2-0 Bloontonium Reactor when it is your only damage in a Race and Lead rounds would otherwise get through.
  • 0-2-5 Sub Commander in rare cases, though the longer reach of Advanced Intel is usually worth more.

Is it worth it?

Only as a step to the middle path tier 3, or for the niche Lead cases above.
