Magic Tricks

Guided Magic and Intense Magic cost 25 less.

In-game description

Guide

Magic Tricks is a first-row Magic knowledge that makes two Wizard Monkey tier 1 upgrades $25 cheaper: Guided Magic (1-x-x) and Intense Magic (x-x-1). On Medium, Guided Magic drops from $150 to $125 and Intense Magic from $300 to $275. It has no prerequisite, costs one Knowledge Point and no Monkey Money, and unlocks Speedy Brewing.

The discount is a flat $25 applied after the difficulty multiplier, so it is the same on Easy, Hard and Impoppable. Version 57 fixed an issue where flat discounts like this one were calculated incorrectly outside Medium.

How it changes the game

Both upgrades are cheap and very common:

  • Guided Magic makes the Wizard's bolts home in and see through obstacles. It is part of many Wizard builds, including Arcane Spike and Archmage lines and popular crosspaths such as 1-2-0 Wall of Fire.
  • Intense Magic boosts the Wizard's bolts on the bottom path and is the first step toward Necromancer and Prince of Darkness, and a common crosspath for top-path Wizards.

$25 per upgrade is small. It adds up if you place many Wizards, and it helps very early in Half Cash or Races where every dollar counts. Other Wizard upgrades and the base tower price are unchanged.

Is it worth it?

Priority: must-have, because of the route. The discount alone would be a filler node. What makes Magic Tricks important is that it is the shortest path to Mo' Monkey Money: Magic Tricks, then Speedy Brewing, then Mo' Monkey Money. That is only three points for +10% Monkey Money on every win, which is why most players start their Magic tree here.

From Speedy Brewing you can also continue to Strong Tonic and Acid Stability for Alchemist players. Compared with Lingering Magic and SUPER Range, Magic Tricks is the best first Magic point for almost everyone.

Over a game with three or four Wizards, that is $75 to $100 saved. It is small, but it is free and it applies from the very first upgrade.

Where it works

Magic Tricks is active wherever Monkey Knowledge is enabled, on every difficulty, including Magic Monkeys Only, Races and Boss Events. It is disabled in CHIMPS and in challenges that switch knowledge off.
