BTD6 Update 56 (version 56.0) went live on August 5, 2026. It was the fourth major Bloons TD 6 update of 2026, after 53.0, 54.0 and 55.0, and its headline is a brand-new tower: the Skywarden, a $205 Magic Monkey with Wind, Lightning and Ice paths and a new combo system.
Here are the other headline additions:
- Ascent is a new Advanced map on a mountain peak, with two lanes and water.
- Decryptor Corvus is a new hero skin built around the Chaos Rift.
- Portable Lake Pro is a new Power Pro with three upgrade paths: a cash pool, a tentacle-and-duck attack path and a lives-restoring spa.
- Quest of the Skywardens is a three-chapter Tale that teaches you the new tower.
The update also brought a large round of balance changes. Tack Shooter, Ice Monkey, Desperado, Buccaneer, Super Monkey, Druid and Beast Handler all changed, along with several heroes, Rogue Legends and artifacts. This post covers everything that matters, and patches 56.1 to 56.3 are at the end.

New tower: the Skywarden

The Skywarden is a small Magic Monkey that fires arrows from a Stormbow. It costs $205 on Medium ($175 Easy, $220 Hard, $245 Impoppable), which is about Dart Monkey money. The base tower has 48 range and fires one arrow every 1.55 seconds. Each arrow does 1 sharp damage with 4 pierce. At 0-0-0 it cannot pop Lead or Frozen bloons and has no camo detection.
The Skywarden’s signature mechanic is ramping attack speed. Every hit that deals damage adds 5% attack speed, up to +50%. If the tower goes 2 seconds without dealing damage, the bonus resets. So the Skywarden is at its best on a steady stream of bloons and weakest against sparse rounds.
How the Combo system works
From tier 3 on any path, the Skywarden gets a Combo. A hit marks a bloon for 3 seconds. Further hits from any Skywarden on the same path with a tier 3 or higher upgrade refresh the mark and push the combo forward. Each combo has three effects that trigger in order, and the last one needs four consecutive hits.
The catch is that combos only stack between Skywardens on the same path. If you mix a Wind and a Lightning Skywarden on the same targets, neither reaches its final stage. Two or three same-path Skywardens placed together are much stronger than one alone.
Top path: Wind
| Tier | Upgrade | Cost (Medium) | What it does |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Aerial Attunement | $140 | Range 48 → 58. Nearby towers gain +3 range per Skywarden, up to 3 stacks (+9). |
| 2 | Zephyr Sense | $175 | Camo detection, plus a long-range stance toggle: 20% slower attacks, +35% range, homing arrows. |
| 3 | Wind Weaver | $1,200 | Wind combo: marked bloons are pushed back every 0.5s, the 3rd hit splits each arrow into 2 extra arrows, and the 4th hit creates a small vortex. Blimps are immune to the blowback. |
| 4 | Galesage | $3,000 | Fires three-arrow volleys at 2 damage each. Removes camo from bloons in its range. |
| 5 | Farwind Seer | $19,000 | Base damage 5. At 70 range it gains +1 damage, then +1 per 5 extra range, up to +20. Long-range stance adds +2. The 3rd combo hit spawns 4 extra arrows instead of 2. |
The Wind path is the control and support line. Aerial Attunement’s range aura also reaches heroes, and the buff covers tier 5 towers once the Skywarden itself is at tier 4. Galesage strips camo from everything in its range, so the other towers around it can hit camo bloons too. Farwind Seer is the master tier Ninja Kiwi described as sealing off its own eyesight to “become one with the wind”. In practice it turns range into damage, so stack range buffs on it.

Middle path: Lightning
| Tier | Upgrade | Cost (Medium) | What it does |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Storm’s Pulse | $175 | Energy damage, 50% faster arrows, can pop Frozen bloons (but no longer Purple). The maximum attack speed bonus doubles to +100%. |
| 2 | Thundering Arc | $275 | Arrows explode on impact for plasma damage that pops Lead. Pierce and blast size grow with travel distance. Fires over walls and adds a Set Target option. |
| 3 | Galvanic Conduit | $2,500 | +3 damage to MOAB-class, Ceramic and Lead. Marked bloons pull nearby energy and plasma shots toward them, and sharp or shatter hits on them release chain lightning. The 4th combo hit deals +10 damage and stuns: 3s on bloons, 1s on MOABs and DDTs, 0.5s on BFBs. |
| 4 | Thunder’s Decree | $3,500 | Doubles blimp stuns, and the combo can stun ZOMGs. Adds the Thunder Charge ability (45s cooldown, 9s duration): towers in range get faster projectiles that ricochet twice and can pop Frozen. |
| 5 | Stormwrath Archon | $32,000 | Much stronger combo lightning and stun damage. Spent arrows become lightning rods on the track that zap bloons hit by energy or plasma attacks. Thunder Charge cooldown drops to 30s and chains lightning between every rod. |
Lightning is the damage and blimp-control path, and its crosspaths are the most popular Skywarden builds. Storm’s Pulse doubles the speed ramp, and Thundering Arc adds Lead popping, explosions and over-the-wall shots for only $275. That makes 0-2-0 a very cheap early answer to Lead. Galvanic Conduit is where it starts to handle blimps, with combo stuns on MOABs, DDTs and BFBs.
Thunder’s Decree’s Thunder Charge works as a support ability too, because it boosts the projectiles of every tower in range, not just Skywardens. Stormwrath Archon is the most expensive Skywarden tier 5 at $32,000.

Bottom path: Ice
| Tier | Upgrade | Cost (Medium) | What it does |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Shatterpoint | $150 | +2 pierce and 75% less spread. Can hit Frozen bloons and instantly pops frozen Pink and lower. |
| 2 | Icebore | $250 | +1 damage to frozen bloons. Popping a frozen bloon gives +50% pierce for 1 second. |
| 3 | Coldchain | $1,500 | The first bloon each arrow hits is slowed by 25%. Ice combo: every projectile that hits a marked bloon uses 1 less pierce, even from other towers. The 3rd hit slows nearby bloons, and the 4th fires freezing shrapnel. |
| 4 | Frozen Verdict | $3,900 | 2 damage (+4 to frozen). The combo can slow blimps. Popping frozen bloons leaves icy remains that slow and then explode. |
| 5 | Winter’s Mercy | $20,000 | 4 damage (+8 to frozen), plus bonus damage for every 3 frozen bloons in range. Much larger remains. Remains from popped blimp layers deal huge bonus damage, up to +10,000 from a BAD. |
Ice is the synergy path. Its damage depends on frozen targets, so it wants a freezing partner such as an Ice Monkey or Silas. Coldchain’s combo is the hidden gem: marked bloons cost one less pierce per hit for every tower, so a Coldchain makes the towers around it hit more bloons. Winter’s Mercy scales with how many frozen bloons are near it. Its remains bonus against blimp layers, up to +10,000 from a BAD, is the reason to build it for late game.

Total cost to tier 5 (Medium)
| Build | Upgrades only | Including $205 tower |
|---|---|---|
| 5-0-0 Farwind Seer | $23,515 | $23,720 |
| 0-5-0 Stormwrath Archon | $38,450 | $38,655 |
| 0-0-5 Winter’s Mercy | $25,800 | $26,005 |
Best Skywarden crosspaths
- 2-3-0 / 2-4-0 Lightning: the most popular build. Two Wind upgrades add Zephyr Sense camo detection to Galvanic Conduit or Thunder’s Decree. Use 0-3-2 / 0-4-2 instead when you have a freezer, because Icebore adds bonus damage to frozen bloons.
- 4-2-0 / 5-2-0 Wind: Thundering Arc gives Wind Skywardens Lead popping and plasma explosions. Pick 4-0-2 if your setup freezes a lot.
- 2-0-4 / 2-0-5 Ice: Ice Skywardens lack camo detection by default, so the top crosspath is the usual choice.
Several heroes were tuned for the Skywarden on day one. Obyn Greenfoot now gives Skywardens extra pierce, range, camo detection, a larger explosion radius for Lightning ones, and a stronger frozen shatter for Ice ones. Silas boosts xx3 Skywardens. The Monkey Knowledge point Lingering Magic now applies to Skywardens too. See the hero tables below for the numbers.
Quick take: The Skywarden is cheap, gets strong fast and handles camo and Lead with the right crosspaths. Its raw damage per tower is low, though, and the speed bonus resets quickly. It is at its best in groups of two or three on the same path, or next to towers it can buff and freeze.
How to unlock the Skywarden
Pick the Skywarden as your “Unlock By Pops” target and pop 3,500,000 bloons, or buy the Skywarden Unlock Pack. A regrow farm is the fastest way to grind the pops. After that, you unlock its 15 upgrades the usual way, by earning XP with the tower.
New map: Ascent (Advanced)

Ascent is a sanctuary above the clouds on top of a mountain, and it is also the backdrop of the Skywarden’s unlock screen. It is an Advanced map, and one of the easier ones in that tier.
- Two entrances, two exits: the left lane is short and the right lane is much longer. Both finish close to each other in the lower right, so defences placed near the exits cover both.
- Blimps on either lane: from round 40, blimps can come down either lane, so don’t build everything on the long side.
- Water: yes, so Monkey Sub, Buccaneer and Admiral Brickell are all options.
- Line of sight: pointed grey rocks and a raised rock pool on the second-biggest island block shots. They are small compared with heavy-blocker maps.
- No removables and no high ground.
New hero skin: Decryptor Corvus

Corvus gets the long-awaited Decryptor Corvus skin. In it, the spellbook hero has tapped into the Chaos Rift and fights with reality-warping algorithms alongside a GH05T companion, after long nights at the computer with Benjamin. Like other skins, it is cosmetic only. The real Corvus change in this update is to Nourishment, covered in the balance section.
New Power Pro: Portable Lake Pro

The Portable Lake Pro joins the Powers Pro line-up. It costs 150 Monkey Money, lasts the whole game and is placed and upgraded like a tower, down one path only. The base lake holds water towers and land towers (roughly ten Subs fit). Land towers lose 20% range, but amphibious towers have no penalty.
| Path | Tier 1 | Tier 2 | Tier 3 |
|---|---|---|---|
| Luxury Pool (cash) | Luxury Pool, $800: reveals camo in radius, $6 per pooled tower each round | Pristine Pool, $1,400: $12 per tower, diving board for one small land tower | Jammin’ Bass-Drop Basin, $4,200: $48 per tower, a hovering duck platform carries one sub-tier-5 tower around the map |
| Quacken (attack) | Cozy Radiant Bath, $400: 10% smaller footprints, +10% range for water and amphibious towers | Snug Ooze Surprise, $1,100: two camo-detecting tentacles that attack, 20% space saving, +15% range | Release the Quacken, $6,000: six more tentacles, plus a giant rubber duck attack across the screen every 30s |
| Spa (support) | Rejuvenating Hotspring, $600: removes the land tower range penalty, +2 lives per round | Therapeutic Mud Bath, $1,200: brief Lead popping for pooled towers, slows non-blimp bloons by 40% | Soothing Geothermal Spa, $3,500: +10 lives per round, plus a mud area for more water placement |
Unlocking it takes XP. The Pro and its tier 1 upgrades need 12,500 XP, tier 2 needs 70,000 and tier 3 needs 200,000. A regular Portable Lake gives 400 XP when bought at full price and 100 when used, so you need about 25 lakes for the first unlock. The Pro version earns XP twice as fast. The Hotspring is the most interesting tier 1, because it lets land towers sit in the lake at full range.
Balance changes in v56.0
Update 56 has a big balance list. Some of it is clean buffs or nerfs, and some of it changes how an upgrade scales. Each table lists the numbers before and after.
Tack Shooter
| Upgrade | Change | Type |
|---|---|---|
| xx1 More Tacks | Price $110 → $150 | Nerf |
| xx2 Even More Tacks | Price $110 → $150 | Nerf |
| 2xx Even Faster Shooting | Price $300 → $220 | Buff |
| 3xx Hot Shots | Damage 2 → 3 | Buff |
Bottom-path crosspaths on the Tack Shooter now cost $80 more in total, and the top path gets $80 cheaper. Hot Shots going to 3 damage makes 3xx and above hit noticeably harder.
Ice Monkey
| Upgrade | Change | Type |
|---|---|---|
| 5xx Super Brittle | Attack cooldown 1.2s → 1.56s | Nerf |
| x4x Snowstorm | Price $4,000 → $4,750 | Nerf |
| x5x Absolute Zero | Freeze is now applied after damage is dealt | Change |
Super Brittle now attacks 30% slower. Snowstorm costs $750 more, which also makes the route to Absolute Zero more expensive.
Desperado
| Upgrade | Change | Type |
|---|---|---|
| 2xx Standoff | Max stacks 4 → 6 | Buff |
| 2xx Standoff | Penalty per stack 15% → 10% | Buff |
| 3xx Big Iron | Can now pop Lead | Buff |
| xx1 Wanderer | Max stacks 3 → 5 | Change |
| xx1 Wanderer | Bonus per stack 15% → 9% | Change |
| xx5 Desert Phantom | Shrapnel pierce 10 → 6 | Nerf |
Wanderer now has more stacks that are each worth less. On paper the cap is 45% either way (3 × 15% before, 5 × 9% after), but it takes longer to reach. Big Iron popping Lead removes one of the Desperado‘s awkward gaps.
Monkey Buccaneer
| Upgrade | Change | Type |
|---|---|---|
| x1x Grape Shot | Attack cooldown 1.3s → 1.35s | Nerf |
| x3x Cannon Ship | Cannon explosion pierce 28 → 20 | Nerf |
| 031 Cannon Ship | Cannon explosion bonus pierce 25% → 50% | Buff |
| x5x Pirate Lord | Price $27,000 → $29,000 | Nerf |
With the bottom crosspath, a 031 Cannon Ship goes from roughly 35 explosion pierce (28 + 25%) to 30 (20 + 50%), and a 030 drops from 28 to 20. Pirate Lord now costs $2,000 more.
Mortar Monkey and Dartling Gunner
| Upgrade | Change | Type |
|---|---|---|
| Mortar xx1 Increased Accuracy | Can now damage Camo bloons | Buff |
| Dartling 2xx+ Laser Shock | Damage bonuses can now trigger on bloons shocked by other Laser Shock tiers | Buff |
A Mortar Monkey with one bottom-path upgrade now handles camo without help. Multiple Dartling Gunners on different top-path tiers now share shock bonuses properly.
Super Monkey
| Upgrade | Change | Type |
|---|---|---|
| 000 Base | Projectile speed 200 → 250 | Buff |
| x2x Epic Range | Projectile speed stays at 350 | Change |
| x3x Robo Monkey | Default targeting First & Last → First & Strong | Change |
| 3xx Sun Avatar | Shows a “Can Buff” icon on towers in radius while placing | Change |
| 4xx Sun Temple | Main sun blast projectile distance 300 → 200 | Nerf |
| 4xx Sun Temple | Golden Blades distance 500 → 350 | Nerf |
| 4xx Sun Temple | Golden Planes distance 500 → 350 | Nerf |
| 4xx Sun Temple | Mini Avatar distance 300 → 120 | Nerf |
The Sun Temple projectile cuts mean its attacks no longer reach as far down the track, so placement near the action matters more. Base Super Monkey shots now travel faster.
Druid and Druid Paragon
| Upgrade | Change | Type |
|---|---|---|
| 5xx Monarch of the Storms | Superstorm blowback speed multiplier 1 → 2 | Buff |
| 5xx Monarch of the Storms | Superstorm max blow distance unlimited → 400 | Nerf |
| Druid Paragon | Now pauses regrow globally, like a x1x Monkey Village | Buff |
| Druid Paragon | Main attack damage 55 → 70 | Buff |
| Druid Paragon | Main attack bonus damage to regrow 55 → 70 | Buff |
| Druid Paragon | Main attack bonus damage to Bosses 110 → 130 | Buff |
The Druid Paragon’s main attack now does about 27% more damage, and it stops regrow across the whole map. That makes it more attractive for boss events. Monarch of the Storms blows bloons back faster, but only up to 400 distance.
Beast Handler
| Upgrade | Change | Type |
|---|---|---|
| x3x Velociraptor | Bonus damage to stunned bloons +3 → ×1.5 (carries up to Tyrannosaurus and Giganotosaurus) | Change |
| x5x Giganotosaurus | Pierce 44 → 33 | Nerf |
| x5x Giganotosaurus | Pierce range 66 → 50 | Nerf |
| x5x Giganotosaurus | Base damage 750 → 500 | Nerf |
| x5x Giganotosaurus | Damage scale 800 → 1,500 | Buff |
The Beast Handler‘s Giganotosaurus starts weaker but scales much harder. Its stun bonus is now a multiplier instead of a flat +3, which favours high-damage hits.
Obyn Greenfoot
| Level | Change | Type |
|---|---|---|
| Lv2 | Skywardens in range get +1 pierce | Buff |
| Lv5 | 3xx Skywardens get +35% range | Buff |
| Lv8 | Skywardens get Camo detection | Buff |
| Lv9 | x3x Skywardens get +20% explosion radius | Buff |
| Lv11 | Skywardens in range get another +1 pierce | Buff |
| Lv18 | xx3 Skywardens’ low-tier frozen shatter now applies up to Zebra | Buff |
These additions make Obyn the natural Skywarden hero. The Lv8 camo detection lets you skip the 2xx crosspath on Lightning and Ice builds.
Corvus
| Level | Change | Type |
|---|---|---|
| Lv1 Nourishment | Now grants cash instead of XP at all levels, rounded up to the nearest $5 | Change |
| Lv1 | $0.5 cash per Mana spent | Change |
| Lv15 | $2 cash per Mana spent | Change |
| Lv20 | $8 cash per Mana spent (unchanged) | Change |
Nourishment is now a small income source, scaling from $0.5 to $8 per Mana spent.
Rosalia
| Level 13 attack | Change | Type |
|---|---|---|
| Grenade | Ceramic bonus 1 → 2 | Buff |
| Grenade Cluster | Damage 2 → 4, Ceramic bonus 1 → 2 | Buff |
| Homing Plasma | Blast pierce 200 → 100 | Nerf |
| Enhanced Doomsplosion | Damage 70 → 120, shock bonus damage 70 → 120 | Buff |
| Enhanced Doomsplosion | Pierce 40 → 30, radius 30 → 20 | Nerf |
| Enhanced Doomsplosion | Light knockback 8 → 6, knockback lifespan 0.5s → 0.35s | Nerf |
Rosalia‘s Lv13 kit trades crowd coverage for single-target damage. Her grenades handle Ceramics better, and Doomsplosion hits much harder on fewer targets.
Silas
| Level | Change | Type |
|---|---|---|
| Lv7 | Frozen Cascade explosions also count xx3 Skywardens | Buff |
| Lv8 | Bonus XP per xx3 Skywarden, and extra range for them | Buff |
Masqued Macaque
| Level | Change | Type |
|---|---|---|
| Lv8 Stomp | Pierce 30 → 60, blowback chance 50% → 100%, max blowback 100 → 200, occurrence 10 → 20 | Buff |
| Lv16 | Sword damage 8 → 9 | Buff |
| Lv19 | Sword damage 10 → 12 | Buff |
Monkey Knowledge
| Knowledge | Change | Type |
|---|---|---|
| Lingering Magic | Now applies to Skywarden, no longer applies to Ninja Monkey | Change |
Rogue Legends and artifacts
| Item | Change | Type |
|---|---|---|
| Stage 6+ health scaling | 60% → 90% | Nerf |
| CHIMPS goal requirements | Scale faster, 0.1 → 0.15 | Nerf |
| Least Cash Silver and Gold goals | Requirements increased | Change |
| Boss Rush minigame | Base cash reward $500 → $600, cash reward scale 2% → 1.5% | Change |
| What in Tarnation | Completely reworked | Change |
| Cat’s Meow | Now also disables Mana Shield generation | Nerf |
| Essence of Lych | Basic Zombies no longer spawn from subtowers; spawn cooldown 0.5s → 5s; pierce 1 → 2; damage 1 → 5 | Change |
| Insider Trading | New artifact | Change |
Later Rogue Legends stages are now noticeably tankier, so runs that coasted past stage 6 need more damage.
Quests, Legends and other new content
Quest of the Skywardens

Quest of the Skywardens is a multi-stage Tale that follows a short journey and teaches the tower. It has three chapters: Verdant Fields (Park Path, rounds 1 to 24), Frozen Wastes and The Ascent, played on the new map. The Skywarden is the focus throughout, and you don’t need any Monkey Knowledge. There is also a new Powers Pro Challenge quest on Monkey Meadow. Our step-by-step guides are in the quests section.

Six new in-game achievements arrived for Legends:
- Full Posse: have six heroes in your posse.

Patches after v56.0
Ninja Kiwi shipped three small follow-up builds in August 2026, all listed as bug-fix releases on top of the 56.0 content:
- v56.1: August 12, 2026
- v56.2: August 18, 2026
- v56.3: August 20, 2026
The balance changes in this post are the 56.0 numbers. Ninja Kiwi also said work would begin on bringing v56 to all consoles by the end of the year. The next major update, 57.0, arrived on October 6, 2026.
What Update 56 means for your games
- Try a cheap 0-2-0 Skywarden early. For $655 total you get Lead popping, explosions and shots over walls. With Obyn at level 8, it also sees camo.
- Stack Skywardens on one path. Combos only build between same-path Skywardens. Two Lightning Skywardens next to each other reach Galvanic Conduit’s 4th-hit stun far more often than one.
- Pair Ice Skywardens with freezers. Frozen Verdict and Winter’s Mercy get big bonus damage on frozen bloons, and Silas now counts xx3 Skywardens for Frozen Cascade.
- Re-check your Buccaneer and Ice Monkey costs. Cannon Ship lost explosion pierce, Pirate Lord is $2,000 more and Snowstorm is $750 more. Plan your income around those.
- Look at the Druid Paragon for regrow and bosses. It now pauses regrow globally and hits harder against bosses (110 → 130 bonus).
- Move your Sun Temple closer to the track. All of its projectile distances were cut, the Mini Avatar’s from 300 to 120.
Quick take: Update 56 is mostly about the Skywarden. Unlock it first, learn it through the Quest of the Skywardens, then try it on Ascent with a second same-path Skywarden beside it.
