Portable Lake Pro

Portable Lake Pro in BTD6: a huge pool for land and water towers. How to unlock it, all 9 upgrades with prices, best path and if it is worth it.

Guide

The Portable Lake Pro is the Pro version of the Portable Lake, added in version 56.0. It is a much wider pool that holds both water towers and land towers, and its upgrades can earn cash, restore lives, decamo Bloons or even attack. It costs 150 Monkey Money.

How to unlock it

  • Earn XP by buying and using regular Portable Lakes. At full price, buying one gives 400 XP and using one gives 100 XP.
  • Unlocking the Pro and its tier 1 upgrades needs 12,500 XP, about 25 Portable Lakes bought and used.
  • Tier 2 upgrades need 70,000 XP and tier 3 needs 200,000 XP. Buying and using the Pro itself earns XP twice as efficiently.

What it does at base

  • Placed on land. It is long and wide, with room for around ten Monkey Subs.
  • Water towers such as Monkey Subs, Monkey Buccaneers and Mermonkeys can be placed in it.
  • Land towers can also be placed in it, but they get 20% less range. Amphibious towers are not penalised.
  • Can be placed between rounds.

Upgrades

Prices are for Medium difficulty. One path only, and one tier 3 of each path at a time.

Path 1: Luxury Pool (cash)

  1. Luxury Pool ($800): regularly reveals Camo Bloons in its radius and pays $6 per tower in the pool at the end of each round.
  2. Pristine Pool ($1,400): $12 per tower per round, plus a diving board that holds one small land tower such as a Dart Monkey.
  3. Jammin' Bass-Drop Basin ($4,200): $48 per tower per round, plus a slow hovering duck platform that can carry one tower below tier 5 around the map, much like a Heli Pilot's Door Gunner.

Path 2: Quacken (attack and range)

  1. Cozy Radiant Bath ($400): towers in the pool take up 10% less space, and water and amphibious towers get 10% more range.
  2. Snug Ooze Surprise ($1,100): two tentacles attack nearby Bloons with Camo detection, the space saving rises to 20% and the range bonus to 15%.
  3. Release the Quacken ($6,000): six more tentacles, and every 30 seconds the giant rubber duck attacks Bloons across the screen.

Path 3: Spa (support)

  1. Rejuvenating Hotspring ($600): removes the land tower range penalty and restores 2 lives at the end of each round.
  2. Therapeutic Mud Bath ($1,200): splashes mud that gives towers in the pool Lead popping for a short time and slows non-blimp Bloons by 40%.
  3. Soothing Geothermal Spa ($3,500): restores 10 lives per round and creates a muddy area around the pool where even more water towers can be placed.

Best times to use it

  • Water strategies on dry maps. One Pro pool fits a whole group of Subs or Buccaneers where a normal Lake fits one.
  • Monkey Sub stacks. Several Subs plus Admiral Brickell in one pool make a compact, strong defence on maps with no water.
  • Freeplay and long games. Path 1 pays per tower every round, so it grows with a big pool.
  • Defences short on Lead or Camo coverage. Luxury Pool reveals Camo and Therapeutic Mud Bath grants Lead popping to everything in the pool.

Best combos

  • Monkey Subs and Admiral Brickell. The classic water core, now possible anywhere.
  • Monkey Village inside the pool. Once Rejuvenating Hotspring removes the land penalty, a Village in the middle buffs everything around it.
  • Mermonkey. Gets the water range bonus from path 2.
  • Tech Bot. Link it to Admiral Brickell or another ability tower in the pool so its ability fires on cooldown.

Where you can't use it

Is it worth the Monkey Money?

For water tower fans, yes. 150 Monkey Money for a pool that holds a whole defence, plus upgrades for cash, lives or damage, is a lot more than three normal Lakes would give you.

If you only need one Sub or Brickell on a dry map, the regular Portable Lake at 50 Monkey Money (40 with Cheaper Lakes) is the cheaper choice. Unlocking the Pro takes about 25 regular Lakes, so it mainly suits players who already use Lakes often.
