MOAB Mine
MOAB Mine in BTD6: 5,000 damage to up to 10 MOAB-class hits for 50 Monkey Money. Best rounds, Boss damage, Mauling MOAB Mines, combos and limits.
A powerful mine that detects the presence of MOAB-Class Bloons and will explode causing lots of damage.
Guide
The MOAB Mine is a single-target blimp killer you place on the track. It sits there until a MOAB-class Bloon touches it, then hits for 5,000 damage, and it can do that ten times before it is used up. It costs 50 Monkey Money.
What the MOAB Mine does
- Placed on the track, where it waits indefinitely, even across rounds.
- Only reacts to MOAB-class Bloons. Regular Bloons pass over it.
- Each hit deals 5,000 damage, or 6,250 with Mauling MOAB Mines.
- The damage stops at the outer layer and does not soak through.
- The mine can hit the same blimp, or the children of a blimp it already hit, again after a one-second delay.
- It expires after ten hits on MOAB-class Bloons.
- It can detect and damage Camo DDTs.
- Boss Bloons only take 500 damage per hit (625 with Mauling MOAB Mines), and Elite Bosses take 1,250.
- Can be placed during the break between rounds.
The explosion animation looks like area damage, but it only damages the blimp that touched it.
Version 46.0 raised the damage from 300 to 5,000, so old advice that calls the MOAB Mine useless is out of date.
What 5,000 damage means
- A MOAB has 200 health, a DDT 400 and a BFB 700, so each of them dies in one hit.
- A regular ZOMG has 4,000 health, so one hit pops its shell. The mine can then hit the four BFBs that fall out, then their MOABs.
- Fortified blimps have double health, which a 5,000 hit still covers for MOABs, BFBs and DDTs.
- A BAD has 20,000 health, so the mine only takes part of it and burns through its ten hits fast.
On a single-entrance Standard map, a mine placed before round 40 lasts until about the end of round 54, handling every blimp layer in those rounds on its own.
How to get MOAB Mines
Buy them for 50 Monkey Money, or collect them from:
- Achievements: BFB Brawler (destroy 10,000 BFBs, 3 mines plus 500 Monkey Money), War Monkeys (3), Bloonzilla! (win 25 Double HP MOABs games, 3 mines plus 250 Monkey Money) and Double Trouble (2).
- Quests such as the Adora, Sauda, Ezili, Silas, Striker Jones and Admiral Brickell tutorials.
- Daily and event rewards.
Best times to use it
- Before round 40 on a hard map. If your defence is not ready for the first MOAB, one mine covers it and every blimp up to the 50s.
- Round 64. Six MOABs and three Fortified MOABs often break mid-game defences. A mine deletes each shell instantly.
- Rounds 80 and 85. The first ZOMG and the two ZOMGs of round 85 lose their shells and much of their BFB layer to one mine.
- Round 90 and the Camo DDTs. The mine sees Camo DDTs and kills each one in a single hit.
- Round 100. Lay one or two mines just before your main kill zone so the BAD and its children lose health early.
Place it at the start of the track for maximum value. If you want to save hits, place it a little further down, but not so far that the Ceramics that fall out can escape your towers.
Best combos
- Super Monkey Storm. The mine pops the shells, the Storm clears the Ceramics that drop out.
- Area defences. Bomb Shooters, Tack Shooters and Mortar Monkeys are good against Ceramics but weak against blimps. The mine covers the blimps.
- Glue Trap. With Supersize Glue Trap, glued blimps move slowly past the mine, giving it time to re-hit children.
- Monkey Boost on round 100. Mines take health off the BAD early, then the Boost finishes it.
Where you can't use it
- Disabled in CHIMPS, Races and ranked Boss Events.
- Disabled in challenges and Quests that turn Powers off, and in the editors' test mode.
- In Contested Territory your inventory is locked, but the MOAB Mine Relic gives one mine per game.
- In Odyssey and Rogue Legends only equipped Powers can be used.
Is it worth the Monkey Money?
Yes. Since the version 46.0 buff, the MOAB Mine is one of the best value Powers in the game. Up to 50,000 damage for 50 Monkey Money is half the price of a Super Monkey Storm, and against blimps it is far more effective.
It is less useful against Boss Bloons, where each hit only does 500 damage, and it wears out quickly against BFBs and ZOMGs in large numbers. Keep a few for hard medals and take Mauling MOAB Mines: 25% more damage per hit means fewer hits wasted on each blimp.
Frequently asked questions
How much damage does a MOAB Mine do?
5,000 per hit, or 6,250 with Mauling MOAB Mines. It hits up to ten times before expiring.
Does the MOAB Mine work on Boss Bloons?
Yes, but each hit only does 500 damage to a Boss (625 with Mauling MOAB Mines) and 1,250 to an Elite Boss.
Does the MOAB Mine hit Camo DDTs?
Yes. It detects and damages Camo DDTs, and one hit kills a regular DDT.
Does the MOAB Mine damage regular Bloons?
No. It only reacts to MOAB-class Bloons, and its damage does not pass through to the Bloons inside.
Can you use MOAB Mines in CHIMPS?
No. Powers are disabled in CHIMPS, Races and ranked Boss Events.
Is MOAB Mine better than Super Monkey Storm?
Against blimps, yes, and it costs half as much. The Storm is better for clearing many regular Bloons at once.
