Guide
Powers are consumable items you bring into a game and drop onto the map when you need them: an instant screen-wide strike, a temporary attack-speed boost, traps for the track, cash, or tools like the Pontoon that let you build where you normally cannot. You buy them with Monkey Money in the Powers menu, and you also collect them constantly from daily rewards, events, quests and achievements.
How Powers work in BTD6
- During a game, open the Powers menu and drag a Power onto the map. Some Powers act instantly, others are placed like a tower and stay.
- Each use consumes one copy from your inventory. Powers placed as towers usually stay on the map for the rest of the game.
- Insta Monkeys are deployed from the same menu and count as Powers for every rule below.
- The Powers Monkey Knowledge tree upgrades many of them, for example a stronger Super Monkey Storm or cheaper Pontoons.
- Paragons are not affected by any Power. A Monkey Boost will not speed up a Paragon, and a Time Stop will not slow it.
Attack Powers
- Super Monkey Storm (100 Monkey Money): deals 4,000 damage to every Bloon on screen, or 5,000 with the Powerful Monkey Storm knowledge. Against MOAB-class Bloons it only damages the outer layer, so it will not chew through a whole BAD, but it erases everything small and mid-sized at once.
- MOAB Mine (50): placed on the track, explodes on up to 10 MOAB-class Bloons for 5,000 damage each (6,250 with Mauling MOAB Mines). Like the Storm, the damage hits the outer layer only.
- Road Spikes (50 for five piles): each pile pops up to 20 Bloons, or 21 with Just One More, including Lead and Camo. A cheap answer to small leaks.
- Cave Monkey: a placeable club-wielding monkey that pops and briefly stuns Bloons, including MOAB-class but not BADs or Bosses. It is unlocked through the hidden achievement "They call me Cave Monkey!".
Boost Powers
- Monkey Boost (100): doubles the attack speed of every tower for 15 seconds, or 20 with Longer Boosts. The strongest single-moment Power for most defences.
- Energizing Totem: a placed totem that makes towers in its range attack about 33% faster for five rounds, and it can be recharged after the first round.
- Time Stop (50): slows Bloons to 30% of their speed for 10 seconds (15 with Longer Time Stop), but your towers also attack at only 70% speed, except Paragons. Use it to buy time to place, sell or upgrade, not as a damage tool.
Track and utility Powers
- Glue Trap (50 for two): glues the first 300 Bloons that cross it, slowing them by half for 30 seconds. With Supersize Glue Trap it also slows MOAB-class Bloons, except BADs and Bosses.
- Camo Trap (50 for two): removes Camo from the first 500 Bloons that touch it (600 with Bigger Camo Trap). Great when your defence has no camo detection yet.
- Tech Bot (50): link it to a tower and it fires that tower's abilities the moment they are ready. With Ambush Tech it can wait until Bloons reach a chosen part of the track.
- Pontoon (50, 40 with Budget Pontoons): a floating platform that lets you place almost any land tower on water, big enough for a Banana Farm.
- Portable Lake (50, 40 with Cheaper Lakes): a pool on land for water towers such as the Monkey Sub or Monkey Buccaneer.
Economy Powers
- Thrive (70): +25% cash from pops and income for the rest of the round and the whole next round, or +30% with Supa-Thrive.
- Cash Drop (200, 180 with Budget Cash Drops): drops a crate worth $2,500. Most useful in the opening rounds when $2,500 is a large share of your money.
- Banana Farmer (50): a placed helper that automatically collects bananas, crates and other pickups in its radius.
Premium Powers
A few licensed Powers can only be bought with real money in the main version of BTD6, though some Quests give limited free copies: Sword of Protection, Battle Cat, Havoc Staff and the Sword of Power. They are strong but never required for any medal. In Bloons TD 6+ and the Netflix version they are bought with Monkey Money instead.
Pro Powers
Pro Powers, added in version 50.0, are stronger, upgradeable versions of regular Powers. They cost more Monkey Money, and after placing one you can buy upgrades with in-game cash: three paths with three tiers each, no crosspathing, and only one tier 3 per path per player at a time. The current Pro Powers are:
- Banana Farmer Pro: more range and faster collection than the regular Farmer.
- Super Monkey Beacon: a placed beacon with a Beacon Storm ability that calls a Super Monkey Storm on a long cooldown.
- Hype Boost Monkey: a tower whose High Intensity Hype ability boosts all monkeys in its radius for 15 seconds on a 90-second cooldown, starting on full cooldown.
- Tech Bot Prime: an upgraded Tech Bot that can set an ambush even without the Ambush Tech knowledge.
- Portable Lake Pro: a much wider lake that holds both water and land towers, with land towers getting a range penalty unless you upgrade it away.
You unlock a Pro Power with XP earned from its base Power. Buying a regular Power gives XP equal to eight times its Monkey Money cost, and using one gives two times its cost. Once a Pro Power is unlocked, buying and using it earns XP twice as efficiently toward its tier 2 and tier 3 upgrades. Pro Powers count toward tower limits in challenges.
Where Powers are banned
Powers and Insta Monkeys cannot be used in:
- CHIMPS
- Races
- Ranked Boss Events
- The test mode of the Challenge Editor and Map Editor
- Any challenge or Quest whose rules disable Powers
In Contested Territory, Odyssey and Rogue Legends you can only use the Powers you equip beforehand. Everywhere else, including Impoppable and Daily Challenges without a no-Powers rule, they are allowed.
Best Powers for each situation
Impoppable round 100
Round 100 ends with a BAD, the toughest blimp in the regular rounds. Powers will not kill it for you, but they make the difference when your defence is close:
- Lay one or two MOAB Mines just before your main kill zone so the BAD and its escorts lose their outer layers early.
- Fire Monkey Boost as the BAD enters your strongest damage area, not before. Fifteen seconds of double attack speed is worth more than any other single Power here.
- Keep a Super Monkey Storm for the moment the BAD pops. It instantly deals with the DDTs and smaller Bloons that spill out, which is where most last-second leaks come from.
- Use Road Spikes at the very end of the track as a last line against small leftovers.
- Skip Time Stop: it slows your towers too.
Boss Events
In normal (unranked) Boss Events, Powers help you build faster rather than hit the Boss. Cash Drops and Thrive speed up your economy toward a Paragon, Monkey Boost and Energizing Totems boost regular towers, and Tech Bots keep abilities firing on cooldown. Remember that Paragons ignore all Powers. Ranked Boss Events do not allow Powers.
Races and CHIMPS
Powers are banned in both, so never plan around them. The Grand Prix Spree knowledge still helps races by making entries 10% cheaper.
Saving a hard medal
On a tough Hard map or an Expert map, a Cash Drop in the first rounds or a well-timed Glue Trap or Camo Trap can carry a defence that is not ready yet. Collect free Powers from daily rewards and save them for these runs instead of buying them.
Frequently asked questions
What is the best Power in BTD6?
For saving a run, Monkey Boost and Super Monkey Storm are the most reliable. For economy, Cash Drop gives the clearest value early in a game.
Can you use Powers in CHIMPS?
No. Powers and Insta Monkeys are disabled in CHIMPS, Races and Ranked Boss Events.
Can you use Powers on Impoppable?
Yes. Impoppable allows Powers and Insta Monkeys; only CHIMPS removes them.
Do Powers affect Paragons?
No. Paragons are not affected by any Power, including Monkey Boost and Time Stop.
How do you unlock Pro Powers?
Earn XP for the matching Power by buying and using it. Each Pro Power has its own XP bar, and the tiers of its upgrades need more XP after that.
How do you get the Cave Monkey Power?
It is the reward for the hidden achievement "They call me Cave Monkey!".
Are Insta Monkeys Powers?
Yes. They are placed from the Powers menu and follow the same restrictions.
