Warm Oak

Warm Oak in BTD6: the Druid's Heart of Oak upgrade costs $100 less on every difficulty. Why it matters for jungle Druids and where it leads.

Heart of Oak cost reduced by 100.

In-game description

Guide

Warm Oak is a third-row Magic knowledge that lowers the price of the Druid's Heart of Oak upgrade (tier 2 middle path) by a flat $100. You need 4 Knowledge Points in the Magic tree and Hot Magic. It costs one point, no Monkey Money, and unlocks Cold Front.

The discount is applied after the difficulty multiplier, so it is $100 on every difficulty. Version 57 fixed an issue where flat discounts like this one were calculated incorrectly outside Medium.

How it changes the game

Heart of Oak (x-2-x Druid) lets the Druid's attacks remove the Regrow property from bloons, and it is the required step to the middle path: Druid of the Jungle, Jungle's Bounty and Spirit of the Forest. Because Heart of Oak is a cheap tier 2, a $100 discount is a large share of its price:

  • Earlier Druid of the Jungle: the middle path's tier 3 arrives sooner, which helps Druid-based early and mid games.
  • Jungle's Bounty farming: Jungle's Bounty (x-4-x) generates cash, and many players use one or more as an economy tower. Each one costs $100 less to set up.
  • Regrow answer: a cheap 0-2-0 Druid is an affordable way to handle regrow rounds, and Warm Oak makes it cheaper still.
  • Crosspaths: top-path Druids such as Druid of the Storm or Ball Lightning often take x-2-x as a crosspath, so they save $100 too.

Only Heart of Oak is discounted; other Druid upgrades cost the same, and the Druid's stats do not change.

Is it worth it?

Priority: situational. The discount alone is small but useful for Druid players, especially those who farm with Jungle's Bounty. The main reason to buy it is the column below: Cold Front makes Ball Lightning's forked bolts freeze bloons, and Vine Rupture gives Spirit of the Forest a powerful ability. Vine Rupture also feeds into Tiny Tornadoes.

Compared with its sibling Flame Jet, which leads to Mana Shield, Warm Oak is usually the second choice under Hot Magic.

Where it works

Warm Oak is active wherever Monkey Knowledge is enabled, on every difficulty, including Magic Monkeys Only, Impoppable and Races. It is disabled in CHIMPS, where Heart of Oak costs full price, and in challenges that switch knowledge off.
