Heroes' base cost reduced by 10%.

In-game description

Guide

Hero Favors reduces the placement cost of every hero by 10%. It is the fourth-row knowledge of the Heroes tree: you need 3 points in Heroes and both Quick Hands and Self Taught Heroes, plus a one-time fee of 250 Monkey Money.

Some examples on Medium: Quincy drops from $540 to $485, Sauda from $600 to $540, Adora from $1,000 to $900, Benjamin from $1,200 to $1,080 and Captain Churchill from $2,000 to $1,800. Prices are rounded to the nearest $5, and the 10% applies on every difficulty.

How it changes the game

The hero is usually your first or second purchase, so the discount lands exactly when money is tightest. A cheaper hero means:

  • Earlier placement. A $1,000+ hero like Adora or Benjamin can come down a round earlier, and since heroes level from the round they are placed, that also means more XP over the game.
  • Cheaper hero-first openings. With More Cash you start with $850 on most modes, which together with Hero Favors leaves more room for a first tower next to Quincy, Sauda or Ezili.
  • Expensive heroes become playable early. Captain Churchill saves $200, which makes his early placement more realistic on Hard.

The discount only affects the hero's placement price. Buying levels is covered by Scholarships.

In the late game the saving is irrelevant; Hero Favors is all about the opening.

Is it worth it?

Priority: must-have. Every hero player benefits every game, and it is the gate to Empowered Heroes, which starts heroes at level 3. These two together are the main reason to invest in the Heroes tree at all.

It is the only knowledge in its row, so there is nothing to compare it with directly. The path is: Heroic Reach, Heroic Velocity, Quick Hands on one side; More 'Splody, Scholarships, Self Taught Heroes on the other; then Hero Favors. That is 7 points and 250 Monkey Money, which is a very good deal for what it unlocks.

Where it works

Hero Favors works in every mode where Monkey Knowledge is enabled and heroes are allowed, including Impoppable, Half Cash and Boss Events. It is off in CHIMPS, so heroes cost full price there. Challenges with MK disabled and Rogue Legends also charge the base price.
