Hypothermia

Hypothermia is a fifth-row Primary knowledge that adds 1 second to the freeze from the Ice Monkey's Snowstorm and Absolute Zero activated abilities. Snowstorm's freeze goes from 6 to 7 seconds and Absolute Zero's from 10 to 11 seconds. You need 10 Knowledge Points in the Primary tree, So… Cold… and a one-time 500 Monkey Money. It unlocks nothing.

How it changes the game

Snowstorm (x-4-x Ice Monkey) and Absolute Zero (x-5-x) both have a map-wide freeze ability. One extra second sounds small, but it is a 17% longer Snowstorm and 10% longer Absolute Zero freeze:

• Emergency stalls: pressing Snowstorm when a round is about to leak gives your damage towers one more second of free hits on everything on screen.
• Ability chaining: players who alternate Snowstorm and Absolute Zero, or use several Ice Monkeys to cover each other's cooldowns, get more total frozen time per cycle.
• Mixed rounds: the bonus applies to every bloon the ability freezes. Blimps, Camo bloons and the children of White and Zebra bloons are frozen for shorter periods than regular bloons, but they also get the extra second.

Since version 25, the bonus applies to all bloon types the ability can freeze. It does not change the freezing from the towers' normal attacks, only the abilities. It also does not affect the Herald of Everfrost Paragon.

Is it worth it?

Priority: situational. If you build middle-path Ice Monkeys and rely on Snowstorm or Absolute Zero as a panic button or as part of an ice-stall defense, Hypothermia is a free extra second every time. For players who do not build middle-path Ice Monkeys, it does nothing.

Compared with its sibling Big Cryo Blast, Hypothermia is the pick for middle-path players and Big Cryo Blast for bottom-path players. Neither leads anywhere, so both rank below route nodes like Long Turbo, Cheaper Solution and Come On Everybody!.

Where it works

Hypothermia works wherever Monkey Knowledge is enabled: Standard games, Impoppable, Primary Only and Boss Events (bosses themselves have their own freeze rules). It is turned off in CHIMPS and in challenges that disable knowledge, where ability timing plans should be tested without it.
