Flame Jet
Flame Jet in BTD6: Dragon's Breath flames fly 50% faster. What it changes for the Wizard's middle path and why it leads to Mana Shield.
Dragon's Breath flame projectiles move much faster.
Guide
Flame Jet is a third-row Magic knowledge that makes the flame projectiles from the Wizard Monkey's Dragon's Breath attack fly 50% faster. You need 4 Knowledge Points in the Magic tree and Hot Magic. It costs one point, no Monkey Money, and unlocks Arcane Impale.
How it changes the game
Dragon's Breath (x-3-x Wizard Monkey) gives the Wizard a short-range flamethrower that sprays a stream of fire projectiles. Faster flames reach bloons sooner and are less likely to miss bloons moving across the stream:
- Better hit rate: fast-moving bloons that would slip past the edge of the stream are caught more often.
- Crosspaths: common Dragon's Breath builds such as 1-3-0 or 0-3-1 still fire the same flame stream, so they all benefit equally.
- Support buffs: attack speed buffs from Alchemists or Monkey Villages make the Wizard fire more flames, and faster flames make sure more of that extra volume connects.
The practical difference is easiest to see on fast bloons, such as Pinks, Rainbows and early Ceramics crossing the stream at an angle. Without the knowledge, some of them slip through the gap between flames; with it, the stream reaches them before they leave its path. On slow, dense groups, the gain is close to nothing, because the flames would have connected anyway.
What it does not affect: the Phoenix's own flame attack (from Summon Phoenix and Wizard Lord Phoenix) and the Magus Perfectus Paragon's flame cascade. It does not change flame damage, pierce or the attack rate.
Is it worth it?
Priority: good, as a route node. On its own, faster flames are a modest quality-of-life buff for Wizard players. The reason most accounts buy Flame Jet is what follows: Arcane Impale, then Mana Shield, which absorbs up to 25 lives for free. Mana Shield is one of the most popular Magic knowledges, so Flame Jet is usually bought early in the Magic tree.
Flame Jet is also one of the cheapest steps in the Magic tree: no Monkey Money, and it counts toward the 8 points you need for the bottom rows.
Compared with its sibling Warm Oak, which leads to Cold Front and Vine Rupture, Flame Jet is the higher priority for most players.
Where it works
Flame Jet works wherever Monkey Knowledge is enabled, including Magic Monkeys Only, Impoppable, Races and Boss Events. It is disabled in CHIMPS and in challenges that switch knowledge off.
