How to use Magus Perfectus
Magus Perfectus is the Wizard Monkey Paragon, made by merging Archmage, Wizard Lord Phoenix and Prince of Darkness. It costs $800,000 on Medium, the second most expensive Paragon, and it is among the strongest. What sets it apart is mana: almost everything it does spends or restores mana, and managing that resource is the key to its damage.
The mana system
The Magus stores up to 99,999 mana and starts full when you buy it. While it has at least 50,000 mana, its main attacks fire twice as fast (the phoenix attacks are not affected). It has two modes:
- Attack mode spends mana on its bolts, Undead Bloons and phoenix breath.
- Draining Beam turns off the other attacks and fires a weak laser that restores 5,000 mana per second. It has 120 range and switches on or off automatically when mana is empty or full, and you can toggle it yourself.
Attacks at degree 1
- Arcane Spike bolts: every 0.275 seconds, 100 damage with +300 against MOAB-class and +150 against bosses, 25 pierce, homing from anywhere. Each shot costs 50 mana.
- Undead Bloons: every bloon the bolts pop can rise as an Undead Bloon that walks back up the track for up to 16 seconds, dealing 150 damage (+150 to bosses) with 50 pierce. Each one costs 250 mana.
- Dark Phoenix: circles the Wizard. Its fire breath targets First and hits for 200 damage (+50 to bosses) with 100 pierce every 0.2 seconds, costing 50 mana per breath. Every 2 seconds it also launches 8 slow fireballs for 400 damage (+400 to bosses) with 100 pierce, at no mana cost.
Abilities
- Phoenix Explosion (40-second cooldown): spends all current mana to detonate the phoenix. Bloons within 100 units take 3,500 damage every 0.5 seconds for 30 seconds. For every 9,000 mana spent you also get one Undead ZOMG, up to 10. Each deals 8,000 damage (+8,000 to bosses) with 200 pierce, then splits into four Undead BFBs. The phoenix comes back after 10 seconds. The burn cannot hurt purple bloons or Blastapopoulos.
- Arcane Metamorphosis (90-second cooldown): merges Wizard and phoenix. It drains 4,000 mana per second, so a full bar lasts about 25 seconds. During it, the Magus fires a twin flame cascade every 0.1 seconds for 500 damage (+800 to bosses) with 100 pierce, and leaves walls of fire on the track that deal 25 damage with 60 pierce and last up to 9 seconds.
When to buy it
Buy it after your tier 5 Wizards have had time to rack up pops, typically in freeplay or for a boss fight. You need:
- Unlock Magus Perfectus with Wizard Monkey XP after unlocking every other Wizard upgrade.
- Place an Archmage (5-x-x), a Wizard Lord Phoenix (x-5-x) and a Prince of Darkness (x-x-5) on the map at the same time.
- Pay $800,000 on Medium. Paragon prices cannot be discounted, but the page lists every difficulty.
Buying it absorbs every other Wizard Monkey on the map and any Paragon Power Totems.
Raising the degree
Degree runs from 1 to 100 and scales attack speed, pierce, damage and cooldowns. Degree 100 needs 200,000 power, earned from four sources: cash spent on absorbed Wizards and the cash slider (up to 80,000), extra tier 5 Wizards beyond the first three (6,000 each, up to 50,000), damage dealt by absorbed Wizards (1 power per 180 damage, up to 125,000), and Paragon Power Totems (2,000 each, no cap). The Paragon of Power Monkey Knowledge also helps. Place your tier 5 Wizards early so they rack up pops, and add cheap extra Wizards to raise the cash total.
How to use it
- Let mana fill to the top, then start Arcane Metamorphosis for its full 25 seconds of top damage.
- When mana runs dry, fire Phoenix Explosion on nearby BADs. It recharges faster and its burn deals huge damage regardless of mana, while the Undead ZOMGs catch leaks.
- Turn on the Draining Beam when bloons are slow or sparse, and switch it off when you need a burst.
- With the Master Builder, the Power Glove ability gives some of the highest damage in the game, though it also burns through mana faster during Metamorphosis.
The Lingering Magic Monkey Knowledge affects all of its projectiles.
Boss events
In boss events, the best matchup is Bloonarius, where a well-timed Metamorphosis can burst through several skulls in a row. The worst is Blastapopoulos, which lengthens its cooldowns and is immune to the Phoenix Explosion burn. Plan your Metamorphosis around skull thresholds so the big damage lands when it matters.
Is it worth it?
Yes, if you are comfortable managing mana and ability timing. It rewards attention more than most Paragons. A well-played Magus is one of the strongest damage dealers in the game.
