Targeted Pineapples

Targeted Pineapples in BTD6: Exploding Pineapple only drops pineapples while the Monkey Ace is over the track. Pros, cons and when to turn it off.

Pineapples are only dropped near tracks.

In-game description

Guide

Targeted Pineapples is a third-row Military knowledge that changes how Exploding Pineapple works: Monkey Aces only drop pineapples while they are flying over the track, similar to how Bomber Ace drops its bombs. You need 4 Knowledge Points in the Military tree and Accelerated Aerodarts. It costs one point, no Monkey Money, and unlocks Gun Coolant.

How it changes the game

Exploding Pineapple (x-1-x Monkey Ace) normally drops a pineapple on a timer wherever the Ace happens to be. Some of those land far from any bloons and are wasted. With Targeted Pineapples, the Ace waits until it is above the track:

  • More pineapples on the track: fewer drops are wasted on empty ground, so more of them actually hit bloons. Pineapples are explosive, so they can pop Lead Bloons, which helps cheap Ace defenses with leads.
  • Better with Wingmonkey: an Ace using the Wingmonkey flight pattern flies over the bloons closest to the exit, so pineapples drop right on top of them.
  • Less predictable timing: some players prefer the default behaviour, because a well-placed Ace with a fixed flight path drops pineapples in a consistent rhythm. With the knowledge, drops depend on when the Ace crosses the track.

On maps with very short or compact tracks, the Ace may spend less time above the track, so pineapples can drop less often than before. The knowledge does not change pineapple damage, blast size or the base drop timer, and it does not affect Bomber Ace bombs, which already target the track.

Is it worth it?

Priority: situational. For many players it is a small improvement or a wash. Its real role is as the gateway to Gun Coolant, Aeronautic Subsidy, Wingmonkey and Advanced Logistics, so nearly every account buys it.

If you dislike the effect on a specific map, you no longer have to live with it. Since version 57 you can toggle individual knowledges off in the Monkey Knowledge menu, so you can keep the points invested and switch Targeted Pineapples off for that game.

Where it works

Targeted Pineapples is active wherever Monkey Knowledge is enabled, including Military Only and Races. It is disabled in CHIMPS and in challenges that switch knowledge off, so pineapple timing in CHIMPS follows the default behaviour.
