How to use Exploding Pineapple
Exploding Pineapple gives the Ace a second attack: every 1.6 seconds (1.2 with Rapid Fire) it drops a pineapple at its current position. After 2 seconds the pineapple explodes for 1 explosive damage with 20 pierce in a 35-unit radius, or 32 pierce with Sharper Darts. The explosion can pop lead, but not black bloons.
Why it matters as a crosspath
The pineapple itself is inconsistent because of the long fuse. The real reason to buy it is what it adds to other paths:
- Fighter Plane and above: missiles get more pierce, a bigger blast and drop a pineapple when they explode.
- Sky Shredder: pineapples deal extra damage to ceramics.
- Spectre and Flying Fortress: the barrage bombs gain extra pierce and a slightly bigger blast.
It is also the required step to Spy Plane, which is the most common reason to take middle-path upgrades on an Ace.
When to buy it
Get it early if you are going Bomber Ace or Ground Zero, since it is the first step on that path. On top-path and bottom-path Aces, take it when you want the crosspath bonuses or need Spy Plane camo detection.
For cheap lead popping it is unreliable, so do not count on pineapples alone to stop a lead bloon.
Is it worth it?
At $200 it is cheap enough that the crosspath bonuses usually justify it. As a standalone damage upgrade, it is weak.
