Recurring ‘Rangs

Recurring 'Rangs in BTD6: boomerangs with pierce left make a second loop before returning. Which upgrades benefit and which do not.

Boomerangs that return to the Boomerang Monkey will be thrown a second time.

In-game description

Guide

Recurring 'Rangs is a Primary knowledge that makes a boomerang fly a second loop before it returns to the Boomerang Monkey, as long as it still has pierce left. It requires 5 Knowledge Points in the Primary tree and Extra Bounce, costs one point, and has nothing below it.

It was added in version 22 to replace Ambidextrous 'Rangs, which became a built-in feature of the tower. Accounts that owned Ambidextrous 'Rangs received Recurring 'Rangs automatically.

How it changes the game

A boomerang normally travels one loop and disappears when it gets back to the thrower. With this knowledge, a boomerang that comes back with unused pierce goes around once more. A few rules decide how much you gain:

  • It is the same projectile. The second loop keeps whatever pierce was left from the first, and it cannot hit the bloons it already hit on loop one. New bloons that walked into the path are fair game.
  • Kylie Boomerang and above can re-hit, because that line already ignores the normal re-hit restriction. This makes Kylie Boomerang and MOAB Press builds the clearest winners.
  • High fire rate builds such as Bionic Boomerang, Turbo Charge and Perma Charge throw so many boomerangs that a share of them always returns with pierce left, which turns into extra pops on long tracks.

It does not apply to Glaive Ricochet or anything above it, to the Glaive Dominus Paragon, or to the special knockback boomerangs from MOAB Press and MOAB Domination. A boomerang that expires early, for example by running out of pierce or hitting a bloon it cannot damage, also does not loop again.

Is it worth it?

Priority: good. It is a quiet but real damage boost for the middle and bottom Boomerang paths, and it never has a downside. It matters most on long or winding tracks where boomerangs often return with pierce to spare, and least against huge dense groups that use up all pierce on the first pass.

If you are choosing between it and its sibling Hard Press, take Hard Press first if you want Long Turbo, Bionic Augmentation or Mega Mauler, because Recurring 'Rangs is a dead end.

Where it works

Recurring 'Rangs is active in every mode that allows Monkey Knowledge, and disabled in CHIMPS and in challenges that switch knowledge off. Rogue Legends has its own progression: there, Recurring 'Rangs is unlocked separately in the Rogue XP Shop for 1,500 Rogue XP.

Frequently asked questions

What does Recurring 'Rangs do?

Boomerangs that return with pierce left are thrown around a second loop before disappearing.

Can boomerangs hit the same bloon twice with Recurring 'Rangs?

Normally no. Kylie Boomerang and its upgrades can, because they already re-hit bloons.

Does Recurring 'Rangs affect Glaive Ricochet?

No. Glaive Ricochet and its upgrades, plus Glaive Dominus, are excluded.

What happened to Ambidextrous 'Rangs?

It became a default Boomerang Monkey feature in version 22, and Recurring 'Rangs took its place in the tree.
