Monkey Boost

Monkey Boost doubles the attack speed of every tower on screen for 15 seconds. It costs 100 Monkey Money, works instantly and is used up after one activation. Of all the Powers, it is the one that turns a defence that is almost strong enough into one that wins.

What Monkey Boost does

• Every tower on screen attacks twice as fast for 15 seconds, or 20 seconds with the Longer Boosts knowledge.
• Heroes count as towers, so they are boosted too.
• Paragons are not affected by any Power, Monkey Boost included.
• It can only be used while a round is running, not in the break between rounds.
• Since version 28.2 it can no longer be sapped by the Lych.

Doubling attack speed is roughly the same as doubling the damage output of most towers for those seconds. Towers that already shoot fast and hit hard gain the most, so the Boost scales with how strong your defence already is.

How to get Monkey Boosts

The Powers menu sells them for 100 Monkey Money each. Free sources include:

• Achievements: You've Got the Power (your first Power use gives a Monkey Boost), First Monkeys First (2), Rookie of the year (2), ZOMGinator (3 plus 750 Monkey Money), Invigoration (3), and Insta Century (3 plus 1,000 Monkey Money for using 100 Insta Monkeys).
• Quests such as the Quincy, Pat Fusty and Psi tutorials.
• Daily rewards, Daily Challenges and event rewards.

Best times to use it

Timing is everything. Fifteen seconds is short, so fire it when the dangerous part of the round is inside your strongest kill zone, not when the round starts.

• Round 100 on Impoppable. Wait until the BAD reaches your main damage area. The extra 15 seconds of double fire is worth more there than any other single Power.
• Rounds 95, 96 and 98. These are the toughest late rounds before the BAD: round 95 brings 50 Fortified MOABs and 30 DDTs, round 96 brings Fortified MOABs, BFBs and 6 ZOMGs, and round 98 sends 30 Fortified BFBs with 8 ZOMGs. Boost when the first big wave hits your towers.
• Round 63 and other Ceramic rushes. If your defence leaks Ceramics, a Boost as the rush arrives often stops the leak entirely.
• Boss tiers in normal Boss Events. Boost your regular towers while the Boss is in range to speed up a tier.
• When an ability is on cooldown. Use the Boost to cover a gap while you wait for big abilities to come back.

Best combos

• Fast, high-damage towers. Dartling Gunners, Monkey Aces, Sniper Monkeys with Elite Defender or Elite Sniper, Super Monkeys and Tack Shooters all double their output. Boosting a defence built around one or two of these is the strongest use.
• Attack speed buffs. A Monkey Village with Jungle Drums, an Alchemist with Berserker Brew or an Overclock from an Engineer Monkey still apply, so the Boost lands on top of an already fast tower.
• Energizing Totem. The Totem gives a long, local buff and the Boost a short, global one. Together they cover a whole late-game wave.
• MOAB Mine or Super Monkey Storm. Strip the blimp layers with a mine or Storm, then let boosted towers clean up the rest.
• Not with Time Stop. Time Stop slows your towers too, which cancels part of the Boost.

Where you can't use it

• Disabled in CHIMPS, Races and ranked Boss Events.
• Disabled in challenges and Quests that turn Powers off, and in the editors' test mode.
• In Contested Territory your inventory is locked, but the Monkey Boost Relic gives two Boosts per game.
• In Odyssey and Rogue Legends you can only use Powers you equip beforehand.

Is it worth the Monkey Money?

Monkey Boost is one of the best value Powers in the game when used at the right moment. For 100 Monkey Money you get twice the damage from your whole defence for a short window, and that window is often the only thing standing between you and a medal on a hard map.

Keep the free copies from achievements and quests, and buy a few only when you are pushing a specific medal. Take Longer Boosts as soon as you invest in the Powers knowledge tree: five more seconds is a third more value from every Boost. If you use Boosts all the time, unlock the Hype Boost Monkey, a placed Pro Power that repeats a local version of the Boost on a cooldown.
