Monkey Knowledge
Fast Tack Attacks
Fast Tack Attacks in BTD6: Tack Shooter attack cooldown cut by 8%. Free Primary knowledge, what it changes and whether it is worth a point.
Tack Shooter attack speed increased by 8%.
Guide
Fast Tack Attacks is a first-row knowledge in the Primary tree. It cuts the attack cooldown of every Tack Shooter by 8%, which works out to roughly 8.7% more attacks per second. It has no prerequisite, costs one Knowledge Point and no Monkey Money, and it is the entry point to Hard Tacks and Fast Glue.
The in-game text calls it an 8% attack speed increase. Strictly speaking it shortens the time between volleys, so the real gain in shots per second is slightly higher than 8%.
How it changes the game
The bonus applies to all Tack Shooter attacks on every path, so you feel it everywhere the tower shows up:
- Early game: a 0-0-0 or 2-0-0 Tack Shooter fires its ring of tacks a little more often, which helps a single tack cover a short corner on rounds 1 to 20.
- Top path: Ring of Fire and Inferno Ring pulse more often, which adds up to real damage over a long round.
- Bottom path: Tack Sprayer, Overdrive and The Tack Zone already shoot very fast, and the 8% cooldown cut stacks with their own speed bonuses.
- Paragon: the Crucible of Steel and Flame also benefits, so it is not just an early-game perk.
What it does not do: it adds no pierce, no range and no damage, and it does nothing for other Primary towers. It also stacks normally with outside speed buffs such as Monkey Village's Jungle Drums, Alchemist potions and hero buffs, so a fully supported Tack Shooter keeps the extra 8% on top.
Is it worth it?
Priority: good, mainly as a gateway. On its own, an 8% cooldown cut is too small to change a strategy. You will rarely notice it in a single round. Its real value is position in the tree: you need it for Hard Tacks and Fast Glue, and from there the left side of the Primary tree opens up toward Icy Chill, More Splatty Glue and eventually Bonus Glue Gunner and More Cash.
Compared with the other first-row Primary options, Extra Dart Pops gives a much bigger immediate effect for most players, and Increased Lifespan leads to the boomerang branch. Take Fast Tack Attacks early if you play Tack Shooters a lot or if you are heading for the Glue Gunner and Ice Monkey nodes. Everyone ends up buying it anyway, because the Primary tree's bottom row needs points spent somewhere.
Where it works
Like all Monkey Knowledge, Fast Tack Attacks is turned off in CHIMPS. Challenges can also disable knowledge through their rules, which is common in Advanced Challenges and some custom challenges, so check the rules screen before planning around exact Tack Shooter timings.
It is active in Standard, Impoppable, Primary Only, Races and Boss Events unless the rules say otherwise. In Co-op, each player's knowledge applies to their own towers.
Frequently asked questions
Does Fast Tack Attacks affect the Tack Shooter Paragon?
Yes. The cooldown reduction also applies to the Crucible of Steel and Flame.
Is it really only 8%?
The cooldown drops by 8%, which means about 8.7% more attacks per second. Small, but it never turns off.
Does it stack with Jungle Drums and Alchemist buffs?
Yes. It is a permanent tower modifier, so other attack speed buffs apply on top of it.
Should I buy Fast Tack Attacks first?
Only if you main Tack Shooters or want the Glue Gunner side of the tree quickly. For most players, Extra Dart Pops is the stronger first Primary point.
