In-game description

Guide

The Energizing Totem is a placed Power that speeds up every tower around it. Towers in its range attack about 33% faster for five rounds, and when it runs out you can recharge it for another five rounds. It costs 80 Monkey Money to place and 20 to recharge.

What the Energizing Totem does

  • Placed on land like a small tower.
  • Reduces the attack cooldown of every tower in its 54-unit range by 25%. That works out to roughly 33% more attacks per second.
  • Lasts five rounds. The round you place it on counts as the first.
  • Can be fully recharged at any time after the first round for 20 Monkey Money, resetting it to five rounds.
  • Can be placed during the break between rounds.
  • Paragons are not affected, like with every Power.

The in-game text says 25%, which is the cooldown reduction. The actual increase in attack speed is about 33%.

Version 46.0 increased its range from 40 to 54, so it now covers a decent cluster of towers.

Energizing Totem vs Monkey Boost

Both increase attack speed, but in different ways:

  • Monkey Boost doubles the speed of every tower on screen for 15 seconds. It is a short, huge burst for one crisis.
  • The Totem gives a smaller buff to one area for five whole rounds. It is steady support for a kill zone.

For saving a single round, Monkey Boost is better. For holding a defence together over many rounds, especially in freeplay, the Totem gives more total value.

How to get Energizing Totems

Buy them for 80 Monkey Money, or collect them from:

  • Achievements: Invigoration (have 75 buffs active on your monkeys at once, 3 Totems), I'll Be Back (2) and Rainbow is Magic (1).
  • Quests, including the Quincy, Obyn Greenfoot and Ezili tutorials.
  • Daily and event rewards.

Best times to use it

  • Round 95 to 100. Placed on round 95, a single Totem covers your kill zone through the hardest stretch, including round 98 and round 99. Recharge it for the BAD on round 100 if needed.
  • Boss tiers in normal Boss Events. Your non-Paragon towers deal more damage for several rounds while the Boss walks through your defence.
  • Freeplay pushes. In deep freeplay, every bit of attack speed matters, and the Totem keeps working round after round for a small recharge fee.
  • After reloading a save. Some buffs and abilities need time to come back after you leave and return to a game. A Totem bridges that gap.

It is not worth using in early rounds where your defence is not under pressure.

Where you can't use it

Is it worth the Monkey Money?

For normal medal runs, usually not. 80 Monkey Money for five rounds of a local buff is weaker value than a Monkey Boost for one critical moment, and most maps can be beaten without it.

It earns its cost in long games: freeplay, normal Boss Events and late Impoppable rounds, where 20 Monkey Money keeps it running for another five rounds. Use your free Totems there. There is no Monkey Knowledge that improves it.
