Quests
BTD6 Quests explained: Tales, Challenges, Tutorials and Experiments, level requirements, rewards and tips to clear every quest.
Guide
Quests are BTD6's set of hand-made missions with special rules, short stories and fixed rewards. Unlike daily challenges, they do not rotate away: once a quest unlocks, it stays available in the Quests menu. They were added in version 36.0, and the menu is hosted by Patch, who introduces each quest. Some quests teach a hero or tower, some are tough puzzles and some are just fun twists on the normal game.
If you are looking for free Monkey Money, Powers and Insta Monkeys that never expire, quests are one of the best places to get them.
How quests unlock
Each quest has a player level requirement. The earliest quests unlock at level 10 and the hardest ones need level 60. New quests are added in updates, often alongside a new hero, tower or boss, so check the menu after every big patch.
The four types of quests
Tales
Tales are multi-part story quests and always sit at the top of the Quests menu. Each one is split into several subquests that tell a short story and build on each other. Examples:
- Epic Beast Quest (level 40) introduces the Beast Handler and its merging system across three subquests, rewarding one Insta Beast Handler on each path at tier 3.
- Mermonkeys, No Mere Monkeys (level 40) introduces the Mermonkey and rewards three tier 3 Mermonkey Instas.
- New Dart Just Dropped (level 45) centers on two Dartling Gunners with a Glue Gunner and rewards two Insta Dartlings and 1,000 Monkey Money.
- A Slimey Expedition (level 50) covers the map in slime that you pay cash to clear, ending in a fight with Bloonarius, and rewards 1,000 Monkey Money.
- Scoop's Tall Tale (level 60) has you micromanage a Dart Monkey, an Engineer and an Alchemist with Support Chinooks.
- A Strange Bloonomaly is a paranormal story inspired by the boss Phayze, with glitching bloons that jump forward along the track.
Challenges
Challenges are standalone tests of a specific skill, usually against a score or a strict rule:
- Keep Up With Biker Bones! (level 20) is a race against a set time, using Etienne.
- Grow Less Than Galaxili! (level 55) asks you to beat rounds 1 to 80 on Geared using fewer than 80 tiers, with Obyn Greenfoot and towers that lack easy global damage.
- Other challenges include Patch's Cheap CHIMPS Challenge, Protect the Yacht, 5 Minutes of Frozen Over, Least Cash Fast Tracked and One Sided.
These are good practice for competitive modes. The Least Tiers and Race style challenges use the same scoring ideas as Contested Territory tiles and Race Events.
Tutorials
Tutorials teach a single hero step by step, usually starting with the hero alone against custom rounds, then adding towers that pair well with it. They are the easiest quests and pay out mostly in Powers. For example:
- Quincy, Student of Quincy (level 10): two each of Monkey Boost, Energizing Totem and Super Monkey Storm.
- Trial by Fire for Gwendolin (level 14): two each of Tech Bot, Thrive and Camo Trap.
- Blade Sauda Nowhere (level 20): two each of Time Stop, MOAB Mine and Glue Trap.
There are tutorials for most heroes, including Striker Jones, Obyn Greenfoot, Admiral Brickell, Psi and more. Even for experienced players they are quick, free Powers.
Experiments
Experiments arrived in version 40.0. They are unusual game modes with special conditions, each worth 500 Monkey Money:
- MOAB Madness (level 30): start with $50,000 and survive five rounds stacked with MOAB-class bloons.
- Fast Upgrades (level 40): six special rounds on Dark Path where every tower gets one free upgrade at the end of each round.
- Intense Bloon Rounds (level 60): 30 rounds of tightly packed bloons, ending with a BAD on round 30. High Monkey Knowledge helps a lot here.
- Phayze One: defeat Phayze on Sulfur Springs as many times as you can.
There is also a Rogue Legends Preview quest that lets you try a demo of the Rogue Legends expansion.
Tips for beating quests
- Read the quest briefing. Every quest has its own twist, such as slime you pay to clear, a free upgrade every round or a boss that keeps coming back. The briefing tells you what matters.
- Check the scoring goal. Challenges are often about score, not survival. In Least Tiers, every tower and upgrade counts. In a race, every second does.
- Know which subquest you are on. Tales unlock part by part. If you are stuck, the next part often teaches a mechanic you need later.
- Use Monkey Knowledge where it is enabled. Some quests, like MOAB Madness, allow Monkey Knowledge, and it makes a big difference.
- Come back later. Since quests never expire, there is no rush. If a level 60 quest is too hard now, return once your knowledge and experience have grown.
Are quests worth it?
Yes. Quests are a one-time source of rewards, but those rewards are generous for the time they take. Tutorials are a few minutes each for a stack of Powers, the Experiments pay 500 Monkey Money each, and the Tales give Insta Monkeys that are hard to get otherwise, such as Beast Handler and Mermonkey Instas. Do every quest at least once.
