How to use Pat Fusty

Pat Fusty looks like a brawler, but his real job is making other towers better and keeping bloons in place. Used well, he is one of the strongest heroes on hard maps.

When to pick Pat Fusty

Pick Pat when:

  • Your main damage comes from many weak hits. +1 to +3 damage per projectile from Rallying Roar is huge for towers that fire lots of small projectiles, such as Sun Avatars, Grandmaster Ninjas, The Tack Zone, Super Maelstrom and Spike Storm.
  • You need stalling. Knockback from level 5, stuns from level 6 and MOAB stuns from level 13 keep bloons inside your defence longer.
  • The round has a lone, tough blimp. Big Squeeze strips its outer layer. Rounds that send a few strong blimps, such as 60, 80, 85 and 97, are where it shines.
  • The map is hard. Pat is a regular pick on difficult advanced and expert maps, including #Ouch.

Skip him if you cannot put him right next to the track, or if your defence is built on a few huge single hits (the +damage matters less there). He also needs a camo answer.

Leveling and power spikes

He uses a moderate XP scale (1.425x). The levels that change his role:

  1. Level 3 (Rallying Roar): from here he is a support hero.
  2. Level 5 to 6: slaps and stuns turn him into a stall tower.
  3. Level 10 (Big Squeeze): blimp control.
  4. Level 13: stuns also hit MOAB-class bloons briefly.
  5. Level 14: Rallying Roar becomes +3 damage for 10 seconds in a bigger radius. This is his most important level.
  6. Level 16 to 19: range, ceramic damage, attack speed and pierce, turning him into a decent ceramic popper.
  7. Level 20: four-blimp Big Squeeze with a stun burst, and Rallying Roar every 30 seconds.

Place him early so he hits level 14 before the dense late rounds. Monkey Education, Self Taught Heroes and Monkeys Together Strong all help, and heroes inside an Energizer's radius (Monkey Sub 5-0-0) earn XP 50% faster. Buying levels with cash to reach 14 is often worth it.

Best tower combos

  • Super Monkey Sun Avatar (3-x-x). Lots of projectiles, each gaining extra damage from Rallying Roar. A premier pairing on #Ouch CHIMPS.
  • Ninja Monkey Grandmaster Ninja (5-x-x). Huge shuriken counts benefit massively from +3 damage.
  • Tack Shooter The Tack Zone (x-x-5) and Super Maelstrom (x-5-x). Relatively cheap CHIMPS strategies built around his Roar.
  • Spike Factory Spike Storm (1-4-0 or 2-4-0). Useful for beating select rounds when money is tight.
  • Tack Shooter Overdrive (x-x-4). Another many-projectile tower that loves his buff.
  • Engineer Monkey Overclock (x-4-x). Faster slams mean more stuns and knockback, a big boost to his stalling.
  • Monkey Village with Radar Scanner (x-2-x). He never gets camo detection by himself.

Best maps

  • Hard maps with tight space, where every second of stalling helps. #Ouch is the best known example.
  • Maps with a bend next to good land or water, since he can be placed on both. Put him where the track wraps around him so his short range covers more of it.
  • Maps where your damage towers cluster together. Rallying Roar only reaches towers near him, so build your core around him.

His range is 24 to 29 depending on level. Place him first, then build the towers you want to buff inside his Roar radius.

Pat Fusty in CHIMPS

He costs $865 on Hard, so he comes down after your opener. Pat is a strong CHIMPS hero because Rallying Roar lets cheaper towers punch above their weight. The usual plan is a projectile-heavy core (Sun Avatar, Tack Zone, Grandmaster Ninja or similar) built tightly around him, with Roar used on every hard round.

Big Squeeze handles single tough blimps. Get camo coverage early, and remember that Monkey Knowledge is off, so Heroic Reach will not help his short range.

Pat Fusty in Impoppable and boss events

In Impoppable he costs $960. Monkey Knowledge is on, so Empowered Heroes gives Rallying Roar from round 1 and his stalling covers mistakes well on a run where one leak ends the game.

In Boss Events he is one of the better choices when Benjamin and Geraldo are banned, since his Roar is a big buff to Overdrive and other high-projectile towers early on. Big Squeeze cannot grab Boss bloons or BADs, so in boss fights his value is the Roar and stuns on the boss's support bloons.

Abilities: when to use them

Rallying Roar (level 3). All towers near him (including Pat) deal +1 damage for 8 seconds. Level 14 raises that to +3 for 10 seconds with a larger radius. Cooldown is 45 seconds, 30 at level 20. Fire it when the densest part of a round is inside your towers' range, not when the first bloon appears. On blimp rounds, use it as the blimps reach your strongest towers.

Big Squeeze (level 10). Pat grabs the strongest blimp within 35 units, holds it for about 4 seconds while it is untargetable, then destroys its outer layer and leaves its children stunned. He cannot attack for 5 seconds afterwards. It cannot grab BADs or Bosses, and needs camo detection to grab DDTs. Cooldown is 20 seconds. At level 20 he grabs four blimps at once and stuns nearby bloons for 5 seconds. Use it on the tough blimp your defence cannot finish in time, and make sure the children land somewhere your towers can handle them.

Skins

Pat Fusty's skins are cosmetic only and do not change his stats.

Common mistakes

  • Placing him too far from the track. With 24 to 29 range he must be right on it.
  • Building towers outside his Roar radius. The buff is local.
  • Using Roar too early. It lasts 8 to 10 seconds. Wait for the dense part.
  • Big Squeezing a weak MOAB. Save it for the blimp that would otherwise leak.
  • No camo answer. He never gets camo detection.
