Big Traps

Big Traps in BTD6 raises Bloon Trap capacity from 500 to 530 RBE, enough for 6 ceramics instead of 5. What it means for Engineer income.

Bloon Trap can hold up to 530 RBE.

In-game description

Guide

Big Traps raises the capacity of the Engineer Monkey's Bloon Trap by 30 RBE, from 500 to 530. The XXXL Trap gets the same +30, from 10,000 to 10,030. It is a fifth-row Support knowledge: you need 8 points in Support and Thicker Foams, plus a one-time fee of 500 Monkey Money.

How it changes the game

The Bloon Trap (0-0-4 Engineer) drops a trap on the track that swallows bloons whole until it reaches its RBE limit. When you collect a full trap, you get the normal cash for those bloons plus a large bonus on top, so the trap works as both defence and income.

The extra 30 RBE matters most against ceramics. A ceramic is worth 104 RBE, so a normal trap fills on the fifth ceramic. With Big Traps it holds a sixth ceramic before it is full. In practice that is one more ceramic per trap cycle that never reaches your defence, and a little more cash per collection.

For the XXXL Trap, 30 RBE on top of 10,000 is a rounding error and changes nothing you will notice.

The knowledge has no effect on Engineers without the bottom path, and very little before round 40, when ceramics start to appear in numbers and a 0-0-4 Engineer is realistic.

Is it worth it?

Priority: skip, unless you build Bloon Traps. Big Traps is one of the weakest knowledges in the Support tree. It does not lead anywhere, the bonus only applies to one tier 4 upgrade, and the 500 Monkey Money fee is better spent on Veteran Monkey Training, Better Sell Deals or Healthy Bananas first.

Players who like Bloon Trap farming on maps with a long, tight track section can still get value: six ceramics per trap instead of five is a real improvement for that specific strategy. Everyone else should buy it last, when the rest of the tree is done, mainly to complete it or to reach the point count for deeper knowledge.

Where it works

Big Traps is active in every mode where Monkey Knowledge is enabled. It is off in CHIMPS, and the Bloon Trap's bonus cash is income, which CHIMPS also removes. Challenges with MK disabled and Rogue Legends use the normal 500 RBE capacity.
