Monkey Knowledge
Bionic Augmentation
Bionic Augmentation in BTD6 gives Boomerang Monkeys Camo detection while Turbo Charge or Perma Charge is active. Cost and verdict.
While Turbo Charge is active, Bionic Boomerang is able to target Camo Bloons
Guide
Bionic Augmentation is a fifth-row Primary knowledge that gives a Boomerang Monkey Camo detection for as long as its Turbo Charge or Perma Charge ability is active. You need 10 Knowledge Points in the Primary tree, Long Turbo and a one-time 500 Monkey Money. It was added in version 30 and unlocks nothing.
Despite the description mentioning Bionic Boomerang, the camo detection comes from the ability, so only towers with Turbo Charge (x-4-x) or Perma Charge (x-5-x) can use it.
How it changes the game
Boomerang Monkeys have no built-in camo detection on any path. Normally they need a Monkey Village with Radar Scanner, a hero such as Etienne, or another camo source. Bionic Augmentation gives them a temporary answer:
- Camo emergencies: if a camo round catches you without detection, pressing Turbo Charge lets the Boomerang Monkey pop camo bloons for the whole ability. Round 78, with its camo Ceramic rush, is a common example.
- With Long Turbo: the window is 15 seconds for Turbo Charge and 20 seconds for Perma Charge, which is long enough to cover most short camo waves.
- Old challenges: puzzles built before version 30 that relied on Boomerang Monkeys lacking camo detection can play differently with knowledge on.
The detection ends as soon as the ability does. It does not help between abilities, it does not give camo detection to nearby towers, and it does not help Boomerang Monkeys on other paths.
Is it worth it?
Priority: good. It is not a replacement for a proper camo source in long games, because the ability has a cooldown. But it removes one of the biggest weaknesses of the middle path for the moments that matter most, and it never has a downside.
Players who regularly build Turbo Charge or Perma Charge should take it right after Long Turbo. Others can treat it as a late pickup, since it leads nowhere. If you are short on Monkey Money, Cheaper Solution and Come On Everybody!, which lead toward More Cash, are usually better spends first.
Where it works
Bionic Augmentation is active wherever Monkey Knowledge is enabled, including Primary Only, where camo sources are scarce and this knowledge matters more. It is disabled in CHIMPS and in challenges that switch knowledge off, so do not count on it in a CHIMPS camo round.
Frequently asked questions
What does Bionic Augmentation do?
It gives Turbo Charge and Perma Charge Camo detection while their ability is active.
Does Bionic Boomerang get camo detection?
No. Bionic Boomerang (x-3-x) has no ability, so it does not benefit.
How long does the camo detection last?
As long as the ability: 10 seconds for Turbo Charge, or 15 with Long Turbo, and 20 seconds for Perma Charge with Long Turbo.
Is Bionic Augmentation enough for camo rounds?
For short waves, often yes. For long camo-heavy games you still want a permanent detection source.
When was Bionic Augmentation added?
In version 30, together with Bonus Glue Gunner and X-Ray Ultra.
