How to use Obyn Greenfoot

Obyn Greenfoot is easy to use and very strong early, but he only reaches his full value when you build Magic Monkeys, especially Druids, inside his range.

When to pick Obyn Greenfoot

Pick Obyn when:

  • You plan a Druid strategy. His buffs touch all three Druid paths: tornado size and speed for Druid of the Storm, range and income for Druid of the Jungle, and full wrath for Druid of Wrath, Poplust and Avatar of Wrath.
  • Your defence is magic. From level 11 every Magic Monkey in his range (Wizards, Ninjas, Alchemists, Super Monkeys, Druids, Mermonkeys) gets +5 range and +2 pierce.
  • You want a cheap, strong opener. His wolves hit harder than most early hero attacks, and he pops Lead from the start.
  • You want help with money. Wall of Trees pays out bananas when it fills, and his level 5 buff boosts Druid of the Jungle income.

Skip him when your main damage is not magic, or when Purples and camo are the main threats and you have no plan for them. His late game damage on his own is modest.

Leveling and power spikes

Obyn uses the fastest XP scale (1.0x). Levels to plan around:

  1. Level 3 (Brambles): a leak stopper that sits on the track and can carry over between rounds.
  2. Level 4 to 5: Nature's Ward totems and his first Druid buffs.
  3. Level 6: wolf pierce jumps from 4 to 9.
  4. Level 8: Druids and Skywardens in his range get camo detection, a big deal for Druid defences.
  5. Level 9: 4 damage wolves and stronger tornadoes.
  6. Level 10 to 12: Wall of Trees, Nature's Clarity, and 5% shorter cooldowns for Magic Monkey abilities.
  7. Level 15 to 16: totems slow by 60% every 12 seconds, and Brambles hit all bloon types with 500 pierce.
  8. Level 18: full wrath for Druids of Wrath every round. This is the level that makes Avatar of Wrath strategies so strong.

Place him on round 1 when possible. Monkey Education, Self Taught Heroes and Monkeys Together Strong add XP, and keeping him inside an Energizer's radius (Monkey Sub 5-0-0) gives 50% faster XP. Buying levels with cash in the late game is an option when you need level 18 for Druid of Wrath.

Best tower combos

  • Druid of Wrath, Poplust and Avatar of Wrath (bottom path). His signature combo. A cluster of Poplust Druids (x-x-4) around an Avatar of Wrath (x-x-5), all inside Obyn's range, gets +pierce from his auras and full wrath from level 18.
  • Druid of the Jungle and Jungle's Bounty (middle path). Level 5 gives them more range and income. A good way to farm with Obyn on maps where Banana Farms are weak.
  • Druid of the Storm and Ball Lightning (top path). Level 9 makes tornadoes bigger and faster, which improves blowback control.
  • Wizard Monkeys and Ninja Monkeys. Nature's Clarity adds +5 range and +2 pierce, and level 12 shortens magic ability cooldowns.
  • Alchemist (4-2-0). Stronger Stimulant boosts the Druids and Obyn himself.
  • Camo support. His wolves never see camo, so pair him with a Monkey Village Radar Scanner (x-2-x) if he needs to attack camo.

Best maps

  • Maps where Druids can reach the track, since Druids have short to medium range. Tight bends and loops let a Druid cluster hit the same bloons repeatedly.
  • Beginner and intermediate maps such as Monkey Meadow, Logs and Spice Islands, where his early wolves and Brambles carry the first 30 rounds.
  • Maps with a single strong choke point, where Brambles, Wall of Trees and Nature's Ward totems all land on the same piece of track. Brambles and totems are placed on track inside his range, so put him right next to the lane.

Obyn Greenfoot in CHIMPS

He costs $700 on Hard, slightly more than the $650 you start with on round 6, so place him after your first round or two. His early damage and Lead popping make the first 30 rounds smooth. Plan camo coverage before the camo rounds (Druids in his range get camo from level 8, but his own wolves do not) and a dedicated Purple answer.

In the late game build an Avatar of Wrath with Poplust support, keep them inside his range, and let level 18 do the rest. Remember that Monkey Knowledge is off in CHIMPS, so he will be lower level than you are used to.

Obyn Greenfoot in Impoppable and boss events

In Impoppable he costs $780, but Monkey Knowledge is on, so Empowered Heroes gives you Brambles from the first round. Brambles plus totems are excellent insurance against single leaks.

In Boss Events he works as a support for a Druid or magic core rather than a damage dealer. Nature's Clarity range and pierce, plus faster magic ability cooldowns, matter more than his own wolves.

Abilities: when to use them

Brambles (level 3). Creates a bramble bush on nearby track, directly on bloons if any are in his range. It pops 50 bloons (100 from level 7, 500 from level 16, all bloon types from level 16), hits camo and can last several rounds if not used up. Cooldown is 30 seconds. Use it before a round starts so it waits on the track, or right on a group that is about to leak.

Wall of Trees (level 10). Places a forest on the track at a chosen point. It absorbs up to 2,500 RBE (7,500 at level 20), including camo bloons, and turns into bananas when full. Cooldown is 90 seconds, 75 at level 20. Place it far up the track on a dense round so it fills and pays out, or save it as an emergency wall for a round you would otherwise leak.

Skins

Obyn's skins are cosmetic only and do not change his stats.

Common mistakes

  • No camo plan. His wolves never see camo.
  • Placing Druids outside his range. His pierce, range and camo buffs (levels 2, 8 and 11) only reach towers in his range. The level 5, 9, 12 and 18 buffs work on screen.
  • Expecting a late game carry. On his own he falls off. His late game value is support.
  • Using Wall of Trees on weak rounds. It pays most when it fills up.
  • Ignoring Purples. His magic attack cannot pop them.

Frequently asked questions

Is Obyn Greenfoot good in CHIMPS?

Yes, especially for Druid strategies. Plan camo and Purple coverage, and build Druids of Wrath around him for the late game.

No. His wolves cannot target camo at any level, but from level 8 he gives camo detection to Druids in his range, and his abilities catch camo bloons.

Can Obyn pop Lead Bloons?

Yes. His magic attack pops Lead, but not Purple Bloons.

When does Obyn get Wall of Trees?

At level 10. It absorbs up to 2,500 RBE and pays out bananas when it fills. At level 20 it holds 7,500 RBE.

What towers does Obyn buff?

Druids from level 2, all Magic Monkeys in range from level 11, and Druids of Wrath get full wrath at the start of each round from level 18.
