Magic tower
Skywarden
Attacks from range with a bow made from a storm-struck yew tree. Gains attack speed with repeated hits. Upgrades focus on Combination attacks that draw on the infused powers of wind, lightning, and ice.
Info
The Skywarden is a Magic Monkey archer added in version 56.0. It shoots arrows from a storm-charged bow, starts slow and gets faster the longer it keeps hitting bloons. Every tier 3 upgrade unlocks a combo: a bloon hit again and again by Skywardens of the same path suffers stronger and stronger effects. It is the cheapest Magic Monkey in the game, only $5 more than a Dart Monkey.
- Cost: $205 on Medium ($175 Easy, $220 Hard, $245 Impoppable)
- Category: Magic
- Unlock: pop 3,500,000 bloons with it chosen as your "Unlock By Pops" reward, or buy the Skywarden Unlock Pack
- Footprint: small
- Range: 48
- Base attack: one arrow every 1.55 seconds, 1 damage, 4 pierce, sharp
- Cannot pop: Lead and Frozen bloons at 0-0-0
- Camo: detects camo from Zephyr Sense (2-x-x); Galesage (4-x-x) also strips camo from bloons inside its range
How the attack works
Arrows leave the bow in a small random spread and slow down as they fly, so a fresh Skywarden is best at short to medium distance. Every time it deals damage it gains 5% attack speed, up to +50%. The bonus resets after 2 seconds without damage, so it shines where bloons arrive in a steady stream. Storm's Pulse (x-1-x) raises the cap to +100%.
The three paths
- Path 1, Wind: more range for itself and nearby towers, camo detection, a long-range stance, blowback and bonus arrows. Ends in Farwind Seer, which converts range into damage.
- Path 2, Lightning: energy and plasma arrows, explosions that fire over walls, stuns that reach up to ZOMGs and the Thunder Charge ability. Ends in Stormwrath Archon.
- Path 3, Ice: more pierce and accuracy, bonus damage to frozen bloons, slows and freezing shrapnel. Ends in Winter's Mercy.
How combos work
From tier 3, each hit marks a bloon for 3 seconds. Another hit from any Skywarden with a tier 3 or higher upgrade on the same path refreshes the mark and pushes the combo forward. Each combo has three effects that switch on in order, and the last one needs the fourth hit in a row. That is why two or three same-path Skywardens placed side by side are much stronger than one on its own.

How to use Skywarden
The Skywarden is a cheap tower that gets strong in groups. One Skywarden is modest damage. Two or three of the same path standing together stun blimps, strip camo, throw out extra arrows or turn a freezing defense into a shredder. Plan it as a team of towers, not a single pick.
Is the Skywarden good?
Yes, as a flexible support-damage tower. Its strengths:
- Very cheap early game. At $205 it costs about the same as a Dart Monkey and pierces 4 bloons per arrow, so it handles the first rounds well.
- Camo answers. Zephyr Sense gives it camo detection for $175, and Galesage removes camo from every bloon in its range so your other towers can hit them too.
- Blimp control. The lightning combo stuns MOABs, BFBs and DDTs, and Thunder's Decree extends that to ZOMGs.
- Synergy. The ice path rewards anything that freezes bloons, and the lightning path rewards fast sharp and energy attackers.
Its weaknesses are low raw damage per tower, attack speed that resets when it stops hitting, and paths that need other towers or several Skywardens to reach full value.
Best paths and crosspaths
Middle path: Galvanic Conduit and Thunder's Decree (0-3-x, 0-4-x)
The most popular choice. Two or three 0-3-x Skywardens next to each other land the fourth combo hit often, which deals extra damage and stuns non-ZOMG blimps. Upgrade them to Thunder's Decree to stun ZOMGs too and unlock Thunder Charge. Take 2-x-x on the top path (2-3-0 or 2-4-0) when you need camo detection, or 0-x-2 for extra damage against frozen bloons.
Top path: Galesage and Farwind Seer (4-x-x, 5-x-x)
Galesage is a camo solution for the whole defense: bloons inside its range lose camo while they stay there. Put one at a choke point that your main damage also covers. Crosspath 4-2-0 gives plasma explosions that pop Lead and fire over walls, while 4-0-2 adds frozen-bloon damage. Farwind Seer gains damage from every bit of range, so stack range buffs and use the long-range stance.
Bottom path: Frozen Verdict and Winter's Mercy (x-x-4, x-x-5)
The ice path only works with freezing support such as Ice Monkeys or Silas. With it, Skywardens shatter frozen bloons, leave exploding remains on the track and slow blimps. Without freezing support it is the weakest path. Take 2-0-x for camo detection.
Upgrade totals on Medium
- 4-0-0 Galesage: $4,720. 5-0-0 Farwind Seer: $23,720.
- 0-3-0 Galvanic Conduit: $3,155. 0-4-0 Thunder's Decree: $6,655. 0-5-0 Stormwrath Archon: $38,655.
- 0-0-4 Frozen Verdict: $6,005. 0-0-5 Winter's Mercy: $26,005.
Wind path in detail
- Aerial Attunement ($140): range goes from 48 to 58, and nearby towers gain +3 range per Skywarden, up to 3 stacks (+9). It only buffs towers up to one tier above the Skywarden's highest upgrade until the Skywarden reaches tier 4, after which it buffs tier 5 towers too. Heroes always get it.
- Zephyr Sense ($175): camo detection plus a stance toggle. The long-range stance fires 20% slower but gains 35% range and homing arrows that do not slow down.
- Wind Weaver ($1,200): the wind combo. Marked bloons are blown back a little every half second, the third hit splits each arrow into two extra arrows, and the fourth hit creates a small vortex on the track that pushes bloons back. Blimps are not blown back.
- Galesage ($3,000): fires three-arrow volleys at 2 damage each and disables camo on bloons inside its range.
- Farwind Seer ($19,000): base damage rises to 5. Reaching 70 range adds +1 damage and every 5 range beyond that adds +1 more, up to +20. The long-range stance alone adds +2. The third combo hit spawns four extra arrows instead of two.
Lightning path in detail
- Storm's Pulse ($175): arrows deal energy damage, fly 50% faster and can pop Frozen bloons, but can no longer pop Purple. Maximum attack speed bonus doubles to +100%.
- Thundering Arc ($275): arrows now explode at the target. The blast deals plasma damage, pops Lead and grows in pierce and size the farther the arrow travels. It fires over walls and gains a Set Target option.
- Galvanic Conduit ($2,500): +3 damage to MOAB-class, Ceramic and Lead bloons, plus the lightning combo. Marked bloons pull nearby energy and plasma shots toward them, sharp or shatter hits on them release chain lightning, and the fourth hit deals +10 damage and stuns (3 seconds on bloons, 1 second on MOABs and DDTs, half a second on BFBs).
- Thunder's Decree ($3,500): doubles the blimp stuns and lets the combo stun ZOMGs. Thunder Charge (45-second cooldown, 9 seconds) gives towers in range faster projectiles that ricochet twice and can pop Frozen bloons.
- Stormwrath Archon ($32,000): much stronger combo lightning and stun damage, and spent arrows become lightning rods on the track that zap bloons hit by energy or plasma attacks. Thunder Charge drops to a 30-second cooldown and chains lightning between every rod.
Ice path in detail
- Shatterpoint ($150): +2 pierce, 75% less spread, can hit frozen bloons and instantly pops frozen Pink and lower bloons.
- Icebore ($250): +1 damage to frozen bloons, and popping a frozen bloon gives +50% pierce for a second.
- Coldchain ($1,500): the first bloon each arrow hits is slowed by 25%. In the ice combo, every projectile that hits a marked bloon uses one less pierce, even from other towers. The third hit slows nearby bloons and the fourth fires freezing shrapnel.
- Frozen Verdict ($3,900): 2 damage, +4 against frozen bloons, the combo can slow blimps, and popping a frozen bloon leaves icy remains that slow bloons and explode.
- Winter's Mercy ($20,000): 4 damage, +8 against frozen bloons, bonus damage for every 3 frozen bloons in range, and much bigger remains. Remains left by popped blimp layers deal huge extra damage, up to +10,000 from a BAD.
Best heroes
- Obyn Greenfoot: boosts the pierce and range of nearby Magic Monkeys and adds cleanup and early MOAB damage.
- Silas: the natural partner for the ice path, since he keeps freezing bloons and gives the bottom path the frozen targets it needs.
- Captain Churchill: his machine gun hits marked bloons with sharp damage again and again, which keeps Galvanic Conduit's chain lightning firing.
- Geraldo: a good fit with Farwind Seer.
Tower synergies
- Ice Monkeys with the ice path: freeze first, then let Skywardens shatter.
- Fast sharp towers near Galvanic Conduit: every sharp hit on a charged bloon releases chain lightning.
- Thunder Charge on a cluster of sharp towers lets them pop Frozen bloons and ricochet for 9 seconds.
- Monkey Village range helps Farwind Seer, since range is damage for it.
- Cheap tier 1 and 2 towers around an Aerial Attunement Skywarden get extra range for almost nothing.
Skywarden in CHIMPS
On Hard each Skywarden costs $220, so your $650 starting cash buys two with change left over, not three. The base tower's pierce makes it a solid opener. In the mid game, two 0-3-x Skywardens at a choke can stall a MOAB or BFB on their own, and a single 4-x-x at a busy spot handles camo for every tower around it.
Skywarden in boss events
Bosses are immune to stuns, so the lightning combo only stuns the blimps the boss brings along. Against Blastapopoulos, avoid the lightning path: energy and plasma cannot hurt its Purple shell and add extra heat. The ice path is the better pick there, because Coldchain, Frozen Verdict and Winter's Mercy all lower its heat. See Boss Events for the full rotation.
Common mistakes
- Mixing paths. Combos only stack from Skywardens on the same path. One wind, one lightning and one ice Skywarden never reach their final combo stages.
- Expecting one tower to carry. A lone Skywarden is support. Its value grows with each same-path partner.
- Ice path without freezing. Most of its bonuses only apply to frozen bloons.
- Lightning path against Purple. Energy and plasma arrows cannot pop Purple bloons.
- Gaps in the stream. The attack speed bonus resets after 2 seconds without damage.

Frequently asked questions
How much does the Skywarden cost in BTD6?
$205 on Medium, $175 on Easy, $220 on Hard and $245 on Impoppable.
How do you unlock the Skywarden?
Pick it as your "Unlock By Pops" reward and pop 3,500,000 bloons, or buy the Skywarden Unlock Pack.
What is the best Skywarden path?
The middle path is the most popular: grouped Galvanic Conduit or Thunder's Decree Skywardens stun blimps and add solid damage. Galesage is the best camo support, and the ice path is strong only with freezing support.
Can the Skywarden see camo bloons?
Not at 0-0-0. Zephyr Sense (2-x-x) gives camo detection, and Galesage (4-x-x) removes camo from bloons inside its range.
Can the Skywarden pop Lead?
The base arrows cannot. Thundering Arc (x-2-x) turns them into plasma explosions that pop Lead.
How do Skywarden combos work?
From tier 3, hits mark a bloon for 3 seconds. Each further hit from a same-path Skywarden refreshes the mark and moves the combo forward, and the strongest effect needs the fourth hit in a row.
When was the Skywarden added?
It was released in version 56.0 in August 2026 and rebalanced in version 57.0.
