How to use Ray of Doom

Ray of Doom turns the beam into a massive constant laser. It deals 30 Normal damage per hit, with +110 extra damage to the first target it hits, and has 999 pierce. The shock gets far stronger: 20 damage over time and 20 bonus damage, lasting 30 seconds instead of 5. The beam no longer stops at your cursor. It keeps going in a straight line until it hits an obstacle or leaves the map.

With 5-0-2, the beam gets wider (radius 6 to 9) and pierce rises to 1,025.

When to buy it

At $75,000 on Medium, Ray of Doom is hard to afford without some income. If you can reach it, it can wipe out the late game on most maps, because its pierce makes dense waves irrelevant. Aim it down the longest straight part of the track so the beam crosses as much of it as possible.

Crosspath: always 5-2-0 unless you are in a Least Tiers setup. Faster Barrel Spin gives a big damage boost, while 5-0-2's extra width is minor and the extra pierce does nothing for a tower that already has 999.

Strengths and limits

Ray of Doom has huge group damage but weaker single-target damage for its price. Against boss events, it is viable for lower tiers, but M.A.D is almost always the better Dartling choice there. Its long shock also adds meaningful damage-over-time in some boss fights.

Is it worth it?

Yes, if you can afford it. In late CHIMPS it handles dense ceramic and blimp waves well, especially with buffs. Compared with M.A.D, it is better at crowds and worse at single blimps. Compared with Bloon Exclusion Zone, it costs more but needs less support against lead and DDTs.
