Hydra Rocket Pods

Hydra Rocket Pods replaces darts with missiles. A missile deals no damage itself. Instead, each time it hits a new bloon it uses 2 pierce and creates an explosion that deals 2 damage with 6 pierce in an 8-unit radius. With 6 pierce, a missile can explode up to three times. The explosions pop every bloon type. Extra pierce on either the missile or explosion lets each missile explode more often.

With Powerful Darts (0-3-2), missiles and explosions both gain 2 pierce and the blast radius grows from 8 to 12, adding another explosion per missile. With Laser Shock, only the missile applies shock, and there is no bonus shocked damage.

When to buy it

Hydra is excellent at breaking crowds and has no damage-type weaknesses. It handles early MOABs and ceramic children well and is extremely receptive to buffs. With an Alchemist's Stronger Stimulant it can handle very dense waves.

It is decent in races and a standout in Contested Territory, especially Least Tiers, where it can carry the mid-game as an efficient tier 3.

Crosspaths:

• 0-3-2: more pierce and bigger blasts. The usual choice.
• 1-3-0 or 2-3-0: better accuracy, and the start of the M.A.D crosspath.

Is it worth it?

Yes. For $4,500 on Medium it is one of the best tier 3s on the tower, and it transitions smoothly into Rocket Storm.
