Tier 1 upgrade
Wanderer
Wanderer gives the Desperado +45% attack speed, minus 9% for each other tower in range. How to keep the bonus and which builds use it.
A Wanderer works best alone. Desperado attacks much faster, but less so when more Monkeys are in each weapon's attack range.

How to use Wanderer
Wanderer rewards keeping the Desperado alone. It gains +45% attack speed, but loses 9% for each other tower inside its range, so with 5 or more nearby towers the bonus is gone. Sub-towers, flying units and other Wanderer Desperados do not count.
If the Desperado has several weapons, each weapon's range matters. The rifle from Deadeye still loses stacks from towers inside its dead zone, and the Enforcer shotgun only loses stacks from towers inside its own short range.
When to buy it
Place the Desperado away from your main cluster of towers. That is easy early on and harder later, when you want Village buffs and other supports nearby.
- On the bottom path (Enforcer, Avenger, The Desert Phantom) it is a strong crosspath, because the shotgun's short range makes it easy to keep the full bonus while still sitting near the track.
- On the middle path, the rifle's huge range means you will lose most of the bonus in practice.
- On a low-tier Desperado it is fine in the early game, but not much better than buying another basic Desperado.
Is it worth it?
As a step to the bottom path, yes. As a crosspath for the top and middle paths it is usually weaker than Quickdraw or Bullseye, because it is hard to keep the bonus.
