How to use Ice Shards
Ice Shards marks every bloon it freezes. When another tower pops a marked bloon, 3 ice shards fly out, each dealing 2 shatter damage with 3 pierce. The mark covers 2 layers (3 with Deep Freeze) and lasts as long as the freeze. The initial freeze damage does not trigger shards, and only towers that can pop frozen bloons can set them off.
Ice Shards also gains 5 range (25 in total, 32 with Larger Radius), and its freeze attack permanently removes camo and regrow properties from the bloons it hits. It keeps Cold Snap's camo detection and lead freezing.
When to buy it
Ice Shards is outstanding in Races and time-attack modes, where large bloon groups are frozen and then popped by other towers, setting off chains of shards. Its decamo makes it handle camo bloons without a separate camo popper.
Outside those modes there are often too few bloons for the shards to matter, and its slow attack rate makes it unreliable as a main damage source.
- 3-2-0 is the usual crosspath for faster attacks, longer freezes and an extra marked layer.
- 3-0-2 adds range.
Is it worth it?
Yes in Races and time-attack. In normal games, buy it mainly for decamo or as the step to Embrittlement.
