How to use Long Range
Long Range raises the Buccaneer's range from 60 to 71, adds 2 pierce to its darts and makes all its projectiles travel 25% faster. As a crosspath it also adds pierce to other attacks: +1 on grapes, +10 on Cannon Ship explosions and +1 on its frags, and +2 on the darts of Aircraft Carrier planes.
When to buy it
On a basic Buccaneer it is not worth the money. It is a crosspath upgrade, and its value is all about pierce. Without other pierce buffs, it gives darts 50% more pierce and doubles the pierce of grapes and Cannon Ship frags.
That makes it the best crosspath when pierce matters more than speed:
- Races and Contested Territory time attack, on Grape Shot, Cannon Ship and Monkey Pirates builds.
- 4-0-2 Aircraft Carrier and 5-0-2 Carrier Flagship, when the main boat's Destroyer attack cannot reach the track and the planes do the work.
The extra range and projectile speed are minor bonuses. It is also the step to Crow's Nest and the Merchantman money path.
Is it worth it?
As a crosspath in pierce-heavy situations, yes. In normal play, Faster Shooting is usually the better pick for the middle path.
