How to use Grape Shot
Grape Shot gives the Buccaneer a second attack: a spread of 5 grapes in a 90 degree cone (6 with the Big Bunch Monkey Knowledge). Each grape deals 1 damage and hits 1 Bloon, and the volley fires every 1.35 seconds. Like the darts, grapes fire from both sides of the boat at once when there are targets on both sides. Grapes cannot pop Lead or Frozen Bloons until you add Hot Shot.
Almost every other upgrade improves the grapes: the top path fires them faster and adds one more, Long Range gives them extra pierce, Crow's Nest lets them hit camos, and the bottom path tier 4 and 5 boost their speed and damage.
When to buy it
Grape Shot is a strong early-game tower. It deals a burst of damage to both single targets and groups, especially when you place it between two stretches of track so both sides fire. Pair it with Faster Shooting for general damage, or Long Range for groups.
As a crosspath:
- Top path: the best crosspath on Destroyer (3-1-0), and good on Aircraft Carrier and Carrier Flagship when the main boat can reach the track.
- Bottom path: the preferred crosspath when a Merchantman or Favored Trades boat also needs to deal damage.
It is also the step to Hot Shot and the Cannon Ship line.
Is it worth it?
Yes. It is one of the most useful cheap upgrades on the Buccaneer and appears in most of its builds.
