How to use Hard Thorns
Hard Thorns raises each Druid thorn's pierce from 1 to 2 and changes the damage type of its thorns, thorn piles and vine zones so they can pop Lead and Frozen Bloons. For $350 that fixes the base Druid's biggest early-game gap.
When to buy it
Early, it makes a Druid much more reliable against groups and saves you from leaking the first Lead Bloons. Later, its main job is lead popping as a crosspath:
- Middle path Druids (1-3-0, 1-4-0, 1-5-0), where Druid of the Jungle's vine can then grab and pop lead and frozen bloons, and Spirit of the Forest's vines hit leads.
- Bottom path Druids (1-0-3, 1-0-4, 1-0-5), but only if nothing else pops lead, because you give up Thorn Swarm's extra thorns, which are better with pierce buffs.
It is also the first step to Heart of Thunder and the storm path.
Is it worth it?
Yes. It is cheap, solves lead, and works as a crosspath on almost every Druid build that lacks lead popping.
