CHIMPS is the ultimate test of strategy in Bloons TD 6. Standing for Continues, Hearts, Income, Monkey Knowledge, Powers, and Selling—all of which are disabled—this mode leaves zero room for error. Even veteran players can fall victim to simple oversights that end a run on Round 98 or 100.
Avoid these common pitfalls to secure your Black Border.
1. Relying on Income Towers
This is the most frequent mistake for players transitioning from Hard mode. In CHIMPS, all forms of extra income are disabled.
- The Mistake: Buying Banana Farms, Monkey Banks, or bottom-path Alchemists (Lead to Gold/Rubber to Gold).
- The Consequence: You waste thousands of dollars on towers that provide zero return on investment. Every dollar spent must go directly into defense or support.
2. Ignoring the “Mid-Game Slump” (Rounds 63, 76, 78)
Many players build a defense that handles MOABs well but fails against dense “Ceramic Rushes.”
- The Mistake: Not having enough Pierce or Area of Effect (AoE) damage.
- The Consequence: Round 63 will instantly overwhelm your single-target towers.
- The Fix: Invest in a 2-0-4 Recursive Cluster, a 4-2-0 Main MOAB, or a 0-4-0 Glue Strike to soften these waves.
3. Over-Investing in Early Game
While you need to survive Round 6, spending too much on low-tier towers will leave you broke when the expensive Tier 5s are needed.
- The Mistake: Placing 10-15 Tier 3 towers instead of saving for one or two Tier 5 “win conditions.”
- The Consequence: You won’t have the DPS required to pop the Round 100 BAD.
- The Fix: Use efficient, cheap towers like a 0-3-2 Dragon’s Breath or 1-3-0 Druids to carry you while you save $30k–$50k for a heavy hitter.
4. Forgetting Lead and Camo Consistency
In CHIMPS, a single leaked Camo Lead can end a 40-minute run.
- The Mistake: Relying on hero abilities or inconsistent attacks for Camo/Lead coverage.
- The Consequence: Round 59 (Camo Leads) or Round 95 (DDTs) will end your game.
- The Fix: Use a 2-3-0 Monkey Intelligence Bureau (MIB) village to ensure your primary damage dealers can hit every bloon type, especially DDTs.
5. Poor Hero Choice and Placement
Heroes level up based on the round; in CHIMPS, you cannot spend money to level them up faster.
- The Mistake: Placing your hero too late or in a position where their range is wasted.
- The Consequence: Your hero won’t reach Level 20 by Round 100, missing out on crucial late-game abilities (like Ezili’s MOAB Hex for the BAD).
- The Fix: Place your hero as early as possible (ideally Round 6-10) to maximize XP gain.
6. Not Using Support Towers
Raw damage isn’t enough on Expert maps. You need towers that slow, stun, or weaken bloons.
- The Mistake: Building only “damage” towers and ignoring support.
- The Fix: Always include these “Big Three” support towers:
- 0-1-3 MOAB Press (Boomerang): Knocks back MOABs.
- 0-2-3 MOAB Glue: Slows down MOABs significantly.
- 4-2-0 Main MOAB (Sniper): Stuns MOABs in place.
